How much could I improve my 1 mile run-time in one month and how?
Q: Yeah, so my time now is about 8 minutes and 40 seconds to run 1 mile. I want to trim it just under 7 minutes for now (not really a big goal, but for now) I have plenty of time to work out and run during the summer, but how much would I have to do to reach this and how long would that take?
A: You could do a lot in one month if you stick with it and work hard. Just find a plan, maybe get a running buddy. You could probably drop to under 7 easily.
How can I improve my 3 mile time?
Q: Hey, I’m Tyler, 14 and a Freshman. This is my second year of Cross Country. Right now, I’m really trying to get under 20 for my 3 mile. I’m at 22:11 right now. I know, quite a jump, but thats my goal over the offseason. Anything I can do to increase my time? Should I run more, but slower, or run littler, but faster? Sprints? Distance? Techniques for running? Right now, my coach is really pushing me. He thinks I have awesome potential, so he’s making me run with the top JV runners, Keith, Travis and Matthew. Matthew sometimes runs Varsity, and finishes 4 out of 7 when he does. I really want to show coach what I can do, but I need some help. Thnx
A: hey i am a varsity cross country runner. the best way to lower your time is to keep running. practice and eating right. also – try to run negative splits. it is a technique that my coach tells us to do. basically you run your first mile a little slower and run each mile faster (so your last mile should be the fastest)for your time specifically…your mile splits should look like this (if you were to run a 20:00 minute 5k)1st mile: 6:37, 2nd mile:6:27, 3rd mile: 6:17.see how the miles get faster.. by going slower on the first mile – you save energy for that last mile.good luck (:
