If you tore your ACL apart, then it will not hurt except for the 30 seconds after the tear. However, your knee will shoot out unexpectedly in all different directions while walking. If it's cartilage damage, I believe it is just a nagging p...

Will doing leg weights damage my knee cartilage more ?
Q: I hurt my knee 2 months ago playing football and when i seen the doctor he said he suspected I had damaged knee cartilage.I still havn't got it scanned but i can jog on it and walk on it but i think when i play again one small twist will make the knee give way. Will doing light leg weights on a weight bench help build up the muscles rounds the knee,or damage my cartilage more ?
A: Depends on the severity of the injury. You definitely should talk to your doctor about how you should treat your knee. He might suggest physiotherapy or surgery. Again, this depends on how badly you've hurt yourself. Don't do exercises involving your knee until you've talked to him about it.
If you have knee damage( cartilage),is it ok to run the times when it doesn't hurt?
Q: I had a bad knee injury, just by bending my knees one time. It caused something in my knee bones. According to the chiropractor, and orthopedic i MAY have cartilage damage. Ok, so since February when ifirst had the damage, at times i feel lot of pain, i can't even walk. But other days, i feel fine wwith minimal pain. I haven't done much running or exercise because i feel i could get more damage . but can't i do just light running and still be ok? Is light running bad? should i stop thinking about running, and do other things?
A: I would recommend asking the orthopedist and having him refer you to a physical therapist who can show you appropriate exercises to strengthen the knee so you have good muscular support prior to undertaking any strenuous activities -- you don't want to re-injure (or worsen) the knee!
What is a good exercise routine for people with knee cartilage damage?
Q: I have thinning and possibly torn cartilage in both of my knees and I have been having a hard time exercising because even walking makes my joints grind together. I really want to keep in shape physically and still have a good cardio work out, but I don't know what routine to get on. Any suggestions?
A: My friend had a torn ligament in his knee, and the advice he was given by his doctors to make himself strong again was to exercise. He RIPS it on the elliptical machine, and this is about 5 years after his injury. My advice is to do exercises that involve the legs, but don't put any undue strain on them. You want to make your legs stronger, but at the same time you want to be able to handle the exercise. Cycling is probably better for you than running would be. It's easier on the knees and you could cycle much longer than you could running. Swimming is a great way to get a full-body exercise. It's easy on the joints and muscles and you weigh practically nothing underwater. Good luck!
