Could one place have enough winter activities to make the entire family happy? At Beaver Meadows Resort Ranch at 100 Marmot Drive No. 1 in Red Feather Lakes, Colo., there is a long list of outdoor winter activities for the entire family. Plan on spending more than one night as this ranch is packed full of things to do in Colorado in the winter. Take a winter vacation and stay long enough to do it all at Beaver Meadows Resort Ranch.

Snow Tubing. The winter season opens earlier in Colorado than in most parts of the United States. As early as October, the snow tubing lift begins to pull visitors up the hill to ready themselves for the fun and excitement of the downhill plunge. The tubing lift is open Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Snow tubing is open during the weekdays, but it’s back to old-fashioned climbing the hills yourself as the tubing lift is closed. If you have a group of 10 or more, special accommodations can be made for the use of the snow tubing lift.

Ice Fishing. For $10 a day, visitors can try their hand at ice fishing. Ice fishing is available from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week. When ice fishing on Red Feather’s Doughty Lake, you’ll need to bring your own auger, drill and other ice fishing equipment because it cannot be rented from Beaver Meadows Ranch. You will need to have your fishing license and keep in mind that the ranch only allows four fish per day. Hooks without barbs are the only hooks allowed by the ranch.

Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides. Step aboard the ranch’s custom built sleigh for one of four sleigh riding tours available. First, enjoy the “Hot Chocolate & Cookies Sleigh Ride.” Passengers take a 15- to 20-minute sleigh ride through beautiful Colorado country. During the sleigh ride, you’ll have the experience of stopping at a old time cabin, warming yourself by a fire and eating cookies while drinking hot chocolate.

If it is before Christmas, maybe you’ll want to pick the “Cut Your Own Christmas Tree Sleigh Ride.” During this sleigh ride, you’ll search for your favorite Christmas tree, warm yourself by the fire and fill your tummies with hot cocoa and cookies.

Beaver Meadows Ranch has perfected the most magnificent sleigh ride possible with their “Cowboy Lunch Sleigh Ride.” What makes it so different? Passengers will experience life from times gone by when they sit inside the Homestead Cabin eating cowboy stew and cornbread while drinking hot cider or coffee.

On the other hand, passengers can just take a short sleigh ride around the grounds and head back to the ranch for other winter activities. You will need to contact the stables at 970-231-1955 to set up a time for your sleigh ride.

Winter Horseback Riding. Experience winter horseback riding while viewing the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding 840 acres where the Beaver Meadows Ranch makes its home. You’ll be guided on a tour from one of the Ranch’s expert stable wranglers when the weather permits. There are certain regulations required by the stables before horseback riding is permitted. One-hour rides cost $35 per person and two-hour rides cost $50. For more information, contact the stables at 866-881-7679 or 970-231-1955 to set up your horseback riding winter activity.

Snowshoeing. Among the winter activities at Beaver Meadows Resort Ranch is snowshoeing. Rent some Red Feather snowshoes for a hike on their snowshoeing trail. These Red Feather snowshoes are considered lighter and less troublesome than most snowshoes available on the market. As with most of the winter activities at the ranch, the snowshoeing trail will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week. You can pick up an all-activity pass to go snowshoeing in combination with other activities, or pay $15 per person for the snowshoeing adventure itself.
