Why Big Time Rush is Such a Big Deal

My daughter and I went to a Big Time Rush concert at Foxwoods Casino on March 1st, 2012. I wasn’t planning on attending the concert, but my daughter couldn’t stop trying to convince me to go. Everyday for a week she would flutter her big brown eyes, look at me, and say “Hey Mom, it would be nice to see James and you can see Logan.” Since I’m one of those parents that want to give my child the world, I caved in and decided to get the tickets. It was extremely difficult to find tickets online. When I did find tickets, the only seats left were near the front row and towards the back. I don’t know about you but if I decided to go to a concert I’m not going to sit in the back row to see the boy band ant-sized. The back seats were out of the question and the seats near the front were expensive. Many ticket sellers asked for hundreds of dollars for seats near the stage. They were asking for approximately 500 dollars! My heart began to pound when I realized what I was getting myself into. Am I really going to spend a large amount of money for row J tickets? Again, a mother that wants to give her daughter the world thought yes and so I bought the tickets. A few days before the concert I began to think about this: why is Big Time Rush such a big deal? I know they have a TV show on Nickelodeon. I know they are adored by young girls. I realized this is the all-American boy band following the road that was paved for them by boy bands of the past. Bands such as Backstreet Boys and *N Sync were among the pioneers of pop music. They were successful in their careers because they could dance, sing, and sport adorable faces. These guys become a young girl’s dream boy. What young girl wouldn’t develop a crush on a boy that is multi-talented, or in the words of the entertainment industry, a triple threat (this meaning singing, dancing, and acting)?

Big Time Rush’s show on Nickelodeon is about four young hockey players from Minnesota that move to Hollywood, and take a chance at becoming famous. Their characters are funny and dramatic. Some episodes are about James and his girlfriend and other times it’s about Carlos searching for the right girl. These characters create the ideal bachelor. Generally, the show created characters that are down to earth that lead any girl to wanting to meet them. It’s no wonder girls are driving their mothers crazy to buy the tickets to see Big Time Rush. I’m glad I attended this concert with my daughter. We had a great time and I would do it all over again. The look on her happy face during the concert was classic, BTR will forever have a special place in her heart and in the hearts of the millions of fans.
