Turkey Burger Night: A Guide to Making Moist Turkey Burgers

A good burger is as American as French fries and Italian pizza. We may not all be carnivores but we all love a great burger. Luckily we live in a time where there are more tasty burger choices than ever before. Looking for a burger? Okay, will that be medium rare, gluten-free, well done, a veggie burger, premium sirloin beef or a turkey burger?

For those of us who live and die for the taste of a yummy turkey burger there are a few challenges. First, many restaurants don’t serve a ground turkey burger yet. Then there’s the fact that if you make it yourself you may run into a cooking mishap. The main issue for would-be turkey impresarios is that turkey is a notoriously dry meat.

After years of experimenting and conducting tests of a couple of handsome guys, I have finally created the turkey burger recipe to end all. Sure, some were casualties of the kitchen, but what’s a lifestyle expert to do? Even though I grew up in a partially vegetarian household I am no stranger to McDonald’s infamous Big Mac. Until I was 18 I ate the two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce and cheese. I had my last beefy taste at 21 but I never lost my love for a good burger. In a fit of accidental gluttony, I recently took a bit of a hamburger at a party and had to spit it out. Nothing beats a turkey burger.

This recipe serves four. If amounts are not listed for specific ingredients, add them to your own taste. Start with high quality turkey meat for the best results.

Luscious Ingredients:
-2 pounds of ground turkey
-2 finely chopped apples
-3/4 cup of golden raisins
-minced onions and garlic
-black pepper and seasoned salt to taste
-extra virgin olive oil
-finely chopped cilantro
-finely chopped romaine lettuce
-2 eggs
-fat free cheddar cheese
-buns and condiments of your choice

Bodacious Cooking Instructions:

One of the keys to making moist turkey burgers is to handle the ground turkey as little as possible. The second is the filler ingredients. The lettuce, apples and raisins combines with the eggs will help to make your burger juicy.

Mix the ground turkey with the apples, raisins, lettuce, cilantro, eggs, onions, garlic, seasoned salt and pepper. Then add your burgers to your olive oiled pan. Cook only two burgers at a time to give them room to breathe. You can also use a George Foreman Grill and non-stick olive oil cooking spray.

Flip the burger often to keep it from drying out. Don’t make them too thick because then you’ll have to overcook them to cook all the way through. Your flavor is all sealed in so cook about three to five minutes on each side.

How to Serve:

Serve with your favorite cheese, be it soy, goat or lactose free and enjoy. I love a turkey burger with a good cranberry salsa, but that’s a recipe for another day.
