“Happy New Year.” They smile and drink.

“I wouldn’t have gotten through everything without you,” she whispers, leaning forward to kiss him.

He stops her. “Just because Sadie’s out of town doesn’t mean –“

I need to be with you.

“You’re my best friend. I want to help you, but you must understand I’m in love -“

“I know, but I need you more than she does. Sadie won’t be where we’re going.”

His eyes are filled with confusion, but hers are filled with joy.

She nods towards the two empty wineglasses…
