The Earth it Gives to Me

The earth is frozen cold and barren be

No nourishment to pull or seeds to sow

No flowers, roots or vines to give to thee

Must wait ’til seasons turn for life to grow

Alas when spring arrives then so will I

With rake and hoe and dirt and wide-brimmed hat

To turn the soil rich ’til dark the sky

So I can plant my crops of this and that

Zucchini! Peppers! Beans! Recite a few

Add berries black and red to name some more

The earth it gives to me and I to you

My crops of love and life and evermore

Rich healthy foods to nourish soul and heart

Each day a chance to make a brand new start
