Xbox. Playstation. Sega Genesis. You may not expect the best video game platform of all time to be the third choice stated, but in this guy’s opinion, there has never been anything better. There are so many reasons why the Sega Genesis is, not just one of best, but the greatest system of all time. Is it the game play? Is if the originality? Here is what I think.
Sonic the Hedgehog. I believe that is all I have to say about that, but I will go further. Sonic is one of the, if not the most, popular video game character of all time. The side-scroll game play with intense soundtracks for every level makes for an extraordinary fun time each and every time you pick up the controller. Sonic does not only feature on of the most popular hero’s of all time, but also one of the best villains. Dr. Robotnik or Dr. Eggman, whatever you grew up calling him, makes for the perfect rival for Sonic the Hedgehog. Every time the player faces him, he has a new trick. This is just one reason why Sega Genesis is unlike any other.
The three-button controller; something we will never see again from a video game platform. The game play might get complicated, but you did not have to worry about trying to find the right button to perform a specific task within the game. Since Genesis games are probably some of the most difficult out there, due to the fact that you cannot save your game anywhere or have unlimited chances to beat the game, you do not need a controller that is going to make that experience even more frustrating. Three simple buttons that do it all; that is the Genesis way.
I miss the days when the Sega Genesis reigned supreme over every other. Nothing beats playing a game on a cartridge, that never skips and cannot get scratched. I miss when games took skill to beat and there were not save points around every corner. Nothing will every come close to the originality or the memories that this video game system brought to the table.
