Review: Applebee’s Quesadilla Burger

One thing about my wife’s job is, even though she’s just part time, she still ends up working most week days around lunch time and, as a result, I end up having my lunches alone.

I didn’t feel like driving home a couple days ago and, since I had a little extra money in my personal account (my wife and I each have one to prevent fights over personal spending), I decided to stop at Applebee’s for a burger instead.

I had originally planned on getting my usual bacon cheeseburger. But, as I looked at the menu, I decided to try something new; their Quesadilla Burger.

My wife had actually ordered this menu item a couple weeks ago, when I took her to Applebee’s for her birthday and, at the time, it looked interesting. However, I was filling up on my own entrée and didn’t accept her offer to try it. And, let me tell you, I’m not a person who usually will try new things at restaurants so I was a bit nervous about my decision to try it this time around.

It turns out this wasn’t too bad. Basically, it was a hamburger with lettuce and a couple other things (I don’t remember what the menu said they were) and, instead of being in a bun, it was inside a quesadilla shell. Like they promised, the burger did have a bit of a southwest flavor to it. It was a bit spicy but not overly hot.

The burger was also surprisingly filling. I didn’t think this would be the case when I first saw it (it looked a bit smaller than the burgers I usually get). But, I was only able to eat about half of it before filling full and only managed to get through about half of it and some of my fries (fortunately, we have a refrigerator at work).

The only thing I found I didn’t like about this burger was the quesadilla itself. It was OK (I did like the bacon in it). But, I’m more traditional when it comes to burgers and I think I would have enjoyed this more had it been on a bun.

Overall though, I do feel this was a good purchase. I don’t think it is something I would buy for myself again (I still like the bacon cheeseburger better) but I would recommend it if someone asked me about it.
