Repurposed Crafts – Easy Homemade Pedestal Cake Plate Instructions

A pedestal cake plate adds a touch of elegance to an ordinarily served cake on a piece of cardboard, plastic or cake pan. Many expensive pedestal leg cake plates are available in retail outlets but why spend the money? Make your own cake platter from a glass candlestick and plate. The process is quick and easy.

Things You’ll Need:

4- to 6-inch glass candle stick holder
12- to 14-inch glass plate
Mild dish soap
Lint free cloth
Grease pencil
Epoxy glue for glass

Instructions:

Step 1 – Wash the glass candle stick holder and glass plate with mild dish soap. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Step 2 – Center the glass plate over the center of the candle stick holder. Use a grease pencil and mark the location on the glass plate. Remove the plate.

Step 3 – Apply a line of epoxy glue for glass around the top of the candlestick rim.

Step 4 – Carefully place the glass plate over the center of the candle stick holder making sure to line up the grease pencil mark with the candlestick. Set the glass plate in place.

Step 5 – Allow the epoxy to dry for one hour before moving.

Step 6 – Wash the grease pencil mark from the glass plate.

Add additional decoration to the plate using glass paint. Glass paint is available at hobby and craft stores. Paint on the surface of the plate, the underside of the plate and/or the candlestick. Follow the directions on the glass paint to heat set the paint if you intend to wash the cake platter in the dishwasher. Glass paint will chip off the glass if it is not heat set.
