Prince William & Kate Middleton Launch Children’s Cancer Centre

They’ve always enjoyed using their royalty for a good cause, and Prince William and Kate Middleton were spotted at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey, England today (September 29) for a very special event.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the medical facility to open a brand new children’s ward, smiling and waving to spectators and press as they made their way inside.

According to omg!, the new Oak Centre for Children and Young People specializes in cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and education.

Before the royal couple’s arrival, patients and hospital staff crowded on to the building’s balconies, some waving Union flags, with a huge cheer erupting as the royal car pulled up.

Kate was wearing a simple knee-length dress with elbow length sleeves while her husband looked like quite the gentleman in a navy suit paired with a pale blue shirt and burgundy tie.

After unveiling a plaque to officially open the center, Will and Kate, 29, met patients and their parents during a tour of the facility, which has been built to treat day and inpatients.

Prince William was appointed President of The Royal Marsden Hospital back in May of 2007. The position was previously held by his mother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

As for Kate, it sounds like she’s just getting started on her charitable aspirations. An insider told press, “The Duchess is using the next few months to get to get to know a number of charitable and other causes better, so she can make well informed decisions about her future role.”

The source added that Middleton “has a broad range of interests. They will be different to but complement her husband’s existing interests.”
