Prince County Residents Can Now Report a Crime or Incident on the Internet

Report Crime/Incident Online:

Did you know you can report a crime or incident in Prince William County on the Internet? The county police online crime/incident reporting capability is available at their website, www.pwcgov.org/police .

This reporting system is a convenient option to file reports for certain types of file reports for certain type of non-emergency incidents that occurred in the department’s jurisdiction.

This implementation for reporting crimes/incidents by the public is a significant step in upgrading efficiency for the police department and for the public, police Chief, Charlie T. Deane indicated. He also stated, the new system enables individuals to save time reporting certain types of crimes and reduces administrative duties for the police officers, allowing them more time for investigations and other duties. He also indicated, the public will have more flexibility in reporting certain types of crimes.

When You Report An Online Crime/Incident, It Is Limited To The Following:

1.) The crime/incident you’re reporting is not an emergency – please call 911 for emergencies.

2.) The crime/incident occurs in Prince William County, not in Manassas or Manassas Park, Virginia.

3.) You do not know who committed the crime/incident – there are no known suspects.

4.) You are 18 years old or older.

5.) You have an email address where information can be sent to you.

What Types Of Crimes/Incident Can You Report Online?

1.) Harassing calls, texts and emails: defined as unwanted phone calls, text messages or emails of an annoying or harassing nature.

2.) Hit-and-run, defined as your vehicle or property is struck by a vehicle, causing damage with no personal injury.

3.) Larceny/theft, defined as your property is taken without your permission, but you can’t use this online system to report stolen firearms or prescription drugs.

4.) Larceny/theft from automobile, defined as property is stolen from or off a motor vehicle.

5.) Lost property, defined as property unintentionally left behind, or property lost at an unknown time and/or location.

6.) Vandalism, defined as the act of changing, defacing or damaging public or private property.

7.) Vandalism to auto, defined as a motor vehicle is damaged or defaced.

8.) Supplement to a report already filed, defined as you have additional information to add to a report previously filed online, over the telephone or to a police officer. You must have a case number and officer’s name to supplement an existing report.

Once you have completed your online report, you will receive an email notification the your report has been submitted. This email includes a temporary report number and a copy of the temporary police report to print and to keep for your records.

Please use the system responsibly. Filing a false police report is a Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by confinement in jail for not more than 12 months, or a fine of not more than $2,500, or both.

All cases filed using the Online Police Reporting System will be reviewed. Upon review, if more information regarding your case is needed, you may be contacted by police. A final confirmation with a permanent report number will be emailed to you.
