Paddle Up: Free Ping Pong at New York City’s Bryant Park on 42nd Street

Attention table tennis fans. Within shouting distance of New York City’s Times Square, ping pong aficionados can enjoy their favorite game absolutely free.

Bryant Park between Fifth Avenue and the Avenue of the Americas (aka Sixth Avenue), directly behind the main branch of the New York Public Library, is now an outdoor ping pong paradise.

The busy park, which has a huge ice skating rink (free) and a nifty carousel ride (not free), plus a plethora of shops selling everything from jewelry to souvenirs, is now the home of a friendly outdoor table tennis area where, weather permitting, fans can claim free paddles and balls and play, or simply watch.

Depending on the number of people waiting, a time limit is in place, but the fun of playing ping pong surrounded by skyscrapers, skaters, shoppers and strollers is sure to improve your gamesmanship concentration.

So come on over and enjoy ping pong in the park.
