Ocean Institute Joins in Coastal Clean-up Day

The Ocean Institute is pleased to support the State of California’s Coastal Cleanup Day (visit http://www.coastal.ca.gov/publiced/ccd/ccd.html) on Saturday, September 17. Friends of the Institute are invited to come to the Dana Point Marine Protected Area (behind the Institute, 24200 Dana Point Harbor Drive, Dana Point), 9 a.m. – noon, to clear trash from the area. We will clean the rocky shoreline of the protected area and west jetty. If the tides and surf makes these areas inaccessible, we will clean the west end of the harbor and Harbor Island shoreline.

The Institute will supply disposable gloves and other cleanup materials, or feel free to bring your own. The terrain in the area is rough, so please wear closed-toed and closed-heeled shoes. The group will meet on the steps to the protected area.

There is no cost to participate; ages 4+ welcome. Registration is not required, but large groups are encouraged to give advanced notice by contacting Linda Blanchard at (949) 496-2274, ext. 314 or [email protected].
