Lexus LF-LC Concept Impresses in Detroit

The first official images of the Lexus LF-LC concept car were released by the Japanese carmaker a couple of weeks ago, after several photos were leaked on the internet. But the car only made its debut this week, at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show and I must admit, it looks absolutely splendid.

The style change “suffered” by Lexus vehicles has already begun with the new Lexus GS sedan, but the new LF-LC concept simply blew everyone away with the complexity of the design. The design team that worked on this project did a fantastic job and Lexus says that the LF-LC is a symbol of the greatest transformation in the brand’s history.

The Lexus LF-LC concept is a 2+2 coupe that is more aerodynamic and compact than the LF-A supercar, but unfortunately there’s no official confirmation of a possible production version that would be placed under the LF-A in the Lexus range.

Even though its futuristic, the concept’s designers did a great job on the interior too, the Lexus LF-LC featuring an ergonomic interior with some of the latest technologies available in the car industry. The “instrument panel” and the steering wheel seem to be taken from a video game, while the central part of the dashboard is dominated by a huge 12.3 inch display that shows several important info such as the satellite navigation indications.

Under this huge display there an innovative button that control the automatic transmission and the lower part of the central console features a touchscreen display that allows the driver and the front passenger to access the car’s main controls. But that’s not all, because the power windows and mirrors are also controlled through a series of touchscreen displays mounted on the doors. Of course, as you’d expect in a high end Lexus, exclusive materials were used for the entire interior, fitting the brand’s luxury philosophy.

Unfortunately, Lexus officials have been pretty cheap with technical details, all the official press release mentions being that the LF-LC concept is using a hybrid powertrain, the engine being mounted in the front and power being sent to the rear wheels.

After seeing all these details and photos of the concept car, it’s safe to say that Lexus reached its goals, to impress and get everyone excited about their new car. After admiring it at the Detroit show, all we can do now is wait and hope that the Japanese carmaker will give the green light to a production version of this concept.
