Home Made Pre-poo

Just because you are trying to save money during the recession or because you just don’t feel like running to the store, your hair does not need to suffer. The best remedies tend to be the home made remedies and hair care is no exception.

To pre-poo your hair, mix butter (yes, the butter from your fridge), honey, Vitamin E oil and Tea-tree oil. You can estimate what amount will work best. I used about half a bar of butter, a good amount of honey, a small amount of Vitamin E oil and a larger amount of Tea tree oil. Heat the mixture in the microwave for a minute and then stir it together. It may not all dissolve together since the honey is really thick but do the best you can. Apply this all over your hair and wrap with a plastic bag for an hour. Because of the thickness of the butter and honey and the dryness of the oils, you won’t have any spillage. You don’t have to worry about destroying towels or your clothing which is my favorite part about using this combination of products.

Instead of tea-tree oil, you could use any of your other favorite oils such as coconut oil. You can also use olive oil instead of butter and have an all-oil mixture.

The purpose of pre-pooing your hair is to increase the moisture and strength of your hair and to also treat your ends. After pre-pooing, rinse hair with warm water then shampoo with a small amount of shampoo. Shampoos tend to dry hair so you do not want to use too much shampoo. Condition your hair as much as is needed to get the products completely out.

If you are a clean freak like me, you may be tempted to have a minor break down when witnessing the mess this mixture will cause to your sink. Rest assured, it does clean off very easily. It also washes off easily from your bowl. You may have to deal with the scent of the Tea-Tree oil for a little bit but that’s a small price to pay for awesome hair.

Have fun and happy pre-pooing!
