Halloween: DIY Ideas

As a parent in a poor economy Halloween is considered a luxury. Thanks to our parents, who made everything from daily dinners to tennis shoes from scratch, most of us can come up with some pretty creative and affordable ideas for awesome homemade Halloween costumes.

Face Paint

Face paint is the easiest and one of the most affordable options for a DIY Halloween. You can purchase kits for as little as $3.00. You can also use any makeup you already own.

Super Mario Bros.

The Super Mario Bros. Halloween costume is super affordable, especially if your son is like mine and loves his denim overalls. Simply pair those blue jean overalls with a red long sleeve shirt or sweater, draw on a thick mustache and those iconic curly sideburns and top it all with a little red hat. You can even hand stitch or glue on a homemade Mario patch for the hat. Kids love this Halloween costume because it’s a character they recognize and the costume is comfortable.

Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown is another easy DIY Halloween costume. All you need is a pair of black shorts, a yellow tee shirt and a black marker. Draw on that black design that goes around the bottom of Charlie Brown’s shirt and you’re all done.

Looking for something really easy? Do you remember the Charlie Brown ghost with eyes covering his entire body? Simply cover a small sheet with lots of large black dots, cut small holes for vision and you’re all done.

There are tons of great DIY Halloween costume ideas for children. If your child is under the age of five, you may want to try a few of these cute homemade costumes. Remember, hold on to those old clothes that you come across in your attic; they may make for some awesome homemade Halloween costumes.
