Great Spot to Grab a Coffee in New York

Strolling around the city, I’m always looking for new places to shop and of course eat. Recently strolling down Bowery, I discovered a new restaurant had opened. My growling stomach let me know it was time to eat so in I went.

Peels is the newest spot serving regional American fare. You walk through the wooden screen door into a restaurant that has stepped back in time. White tiles, antique wooden floors, a large dining counter and 2 wooden communal tables. One up front that is self serve and one in the back that has table service. Behind the glass display I see an array of sinful treats. Pies, sticky buns, biscuits and cookies…Oh my. I’m not feeling table service so I opt for a sandwich and a coffee and grab a seat at the front communal table. Newspapers are left around so you can read while eating. Help yourself to silverware and napkins too. My name is called and I pick up my order.

An outstanding cappuccino made with Stumptown Coffee. FABULOUS. A gobble cado sandwich. Fresh, homemade smoked turkey on foccacia bread with avocado and a spicy chipotle mayo with just the right amount of kick. DELISH. The staff are so sweet and the dining crowd is very cool. Business people, fashionistas, students and neighborhood locals enjoying a coffee break and a quick bite. They’re also using local and sustainable ingredients too. That’s it, I’m hooked!!! I’ve been back at least a dozen times since then. A biscuit and caffe on the go. A sandwich or best yet…a slice of their 3 in 1 pie – Chocolate, banana and peanut butter. Need I say more? They also have a more formal restaurant upstairs that is outside of the Cheapeats budget too.

So if you’re looking for a good old fashioned restaurant serving up classic comfort food, head over to Peels. It will be love at first bite.

Happiness, $25 and under.
