Best Dog Parks in Brevard County, Florida

As spring rounds the corner yet again, I find myself spending more time in the sun with my pit-mix, Tyson, reaping the benefits of a brisk walk or game of fetch after a long winter. Over the years studies have shown that without sufficient exercise, both dog and owner may experience significant changes in behavior, or suffer health issues. With this in mind, I have compiled a brief countdown of my favorite dog-friendly places in Brevard County, sure to bring you and your pooch hours of healthy entertainment without hours of driving. Above all else, remember to clean up after your animals and keep them updated on vaccinations in order to ensure that these pleasant places remain open for canine use.

#3 Canova Beach (Indian Harbour Beach, FL) Locals and tourists alike will be happy to hear that Canova Beach, located on A1A at the end of Eau Gallie Boulevard, has finally opened a portion of the beach to leashed canines (no longer than six feet) and their owners. The good news is; no lengthy travel to Miami or Tampa to find beach access with your dog. The bad news; the stretch of sand and surf is not very large, nor the parking lot, and dogs are permitted strictly on a trial basis for the next year.

#2 Palm Bay Regional Park (Palm Bay, FL) Nestled on the northwest end of Malabar Road, the Palm Bay Regional Park made second on my list easily due to its large off-leash dog park. In addition to plenty of parking, it boasts forty thousand square feet of grass and trees, divided into separate areas for large and small dogs. Scattered throughout the park are picnic tables, plastic swimming pools, and Frisbees.

#1 Wickham Park (Melbourne, FL) The preference for Wickham Park lies not only with me, but with Tyson as well. My dog simply loves this park, from the off-leash dog area to the campgrounds and nature trails. The dog park is average sized, with plenty of parking and separate zones for large and small dogs. If you want a change of scenery, strap the leash back on and head for the hiking trails, or jog a lap around the winding park road. Ultimate perk; rent a campsite after an afternoon of fun and cuddle under the stars with your furry friend! Situated on Parkway Drive in Melbourne, Wickham Park offers the best variety of activities and pet-friendly areas for you and your dog.
