Peace

Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (NIV).

Jesus came to this earth sent by a loving and just God. He bears many names but a favorite this time of year is Prince of Peace. He wasn’t born in royal surroundings though. Instead, his beginnings were very lowly. And as Prince of Peace, he lived his life humbly.

Don’t misunderstand. He wasn’t timid. Or apprehensive. Or fearful. His mission was greater than any assignment given to any earthly authority. He came to take on the burdens of everyone in the world –to overcome oppression and offer a life of peace to all who would receive. Being sent by God with such responsibility, he was submissive and gentle as he worked. He was an example of strength without arrogance. Respectful and kind as he did the will of the Father.

Before his earthly mission was over he left us the gift of peace.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (NIV)

“Don’t be troubled or afraid,” he says with authority. He knows his peace is greater than any problem we face.

It’s about trust. Trusting God’s plan of redemption. If we believe Jesus is the answer, we can have peace.

Do you have that peace?

Romans 15:13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. (NLT)
