6 Tips to Cut Out Snacking in the Evening!

It’s something that many of us have to deal with on a nightly basis. The commercials on TV are there for all to see every few minutes, only adding to our misery. We are of course talking about snacking in the evening. We all hear about how obesity is affecting many people across the world and how the blame solely lies with us as individuals. Do you think that’s fair? What about the ”companies” that literally spend millions upon millions of dollars on advertising each year to pull is in and make us buy what they are offering. Does any of the blame lie with them when they are sending messages to young children encouraging them to nag their parents to take them to the burger joint or pizza place in town? Not all, but many stressed out parents will do anything to make life easier and keep the peace, thus giving in to their children’s demands and before you know it, the full family is sitting in the fast food restaurant after dropping a few dollars in to their cash register.

Advertising is everywhere, you cannot escape it. You are simply sitting at home on the couch after a tough day at the office watching your favorite TV show and then BAM; the commercial you just watched has you craving for that pizza. You only had your dinner a couple of hours ago but here you find yourself with your mouth watering and your stomach rumbling, and so the hunger journey begins. Once that hunger journey starts, as far as you are concerned, there is nothing on earth that can cure you other than that pizza you just saw on TV. Half an hour later, you’re tucking in to that pizza like it’s the first meal you’ve had in days.

Try applying the following tips to your evening chill out time; this should see a vast reduction in the amount of evening snacks or meals you consume:

Tip 1 – Switch over the TV once a commercial of that sort comes on. If it’s out of sight, it’s out of mind.

Tip 2 – Do some housework while the commercials are on during your TV shows. Remember the commercials are on for 3 to 4 minutes every 15 minutes or so, giving you plenty of time to clear away the laundry.

Tip 3 – Step outside the house for a few minutes and take in some fresh air while the commercials are on. If you can’t see it, you won’t want it.

Tip 4 – Do some light exercises while the commercials are on. Simply standing up and sitting back down again a few times will exercise your legs and take your mind off food. Or to a more advanced degree, try doing 10 pushups and 10 sit ups.

Tip 5 – Remove yourself from your comfort zone by switching to another seat in the TV room. Just by moving from the spot you usually find yourself in and feel most comfortable in can help take your mind off that pizza.

Tip 6 – Have a glass or 2 of water. Many times throughout the week we mistake hunger for actual thirst. Drink some water; it helps in more ways than one.

If we really put some effort in, we can overcome the temptation that these commercials give us. If you get it in to your head that you are hungry, nothing is going to change that other than food. However, if we can learn to simply ignore these TV commercials, then they will not have the desired effect on you as they only work if we are paying attention to them. If the kids are watching TV and a commercial of that nature comes on, flick the TV over, and then flick it back again in time for their TV show coming back on. You’re doing it for them as well as yourself. If we no longer pay attention or even watch these commercials we can use that free time for other things and also help our families stay healthier.

Enjoy and good luck guys!
