Q: Don’t worry, I’m not thinking about taking heroin. This is purely for research purposes. What are the short term effects of heroin taken intravenously (directly into a vein by means of an injection)? What does it feel like? How long does it last for? What do people who have taken heroin look like?If someone only takes heroin once, do they become addicted to it? A: Soon after injection (or inhalation), heroin crosses the blood-brain barrier. In the brain, heroin is converted to morphine and binds rapidly to opioid receptors. Abusers typically report feeling a surge of pleasurable sensation, a “rush.”The intensity of the rush is a function of how much drug is taken and how rapidly the drug enters the brain and binds to the natural opioid receptors. Heroin is particularly addictive because it enters the brain so rapidly. With heroin, the rush is usually accompanied by a warm flushing of the skin, dry mouth, and a heavy feeling in the extremities, which may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and severe itching. After the initial effects, abusers usually will be drowsy for several hours. Mental function is clouded by heroin’s effect on the central nervous system. Cardiac function slows. Breathing is also severely slowed, sometimes to the point of death.Heroin overdose is a particular risk on the street, where the amount and purity of the drug cannot be accurately known.Idk what it feels likePeople who take herion look sicklyHeroin is highly addictive and are usually hooked on it after only one injection
What are the effects of heroin?
Q: Some of my peers have been taking heroin, and they were inviting me to join them. I know it’s an illegal drug, which is why I’m against taking it. They told me it makes them feel happy. Is this true? I’ve been so depressed lately that I’d be willing to take fake happiness from heroin just to experience bliss again. I don’t want to do drugs, but I’m tempted. Maybe if someone could enlighten me about the bad effects, I won’t be so inclined to take it anymore and say a firm “no” to my peers.
A: Taking in heroin can give you a sudden rush, a blast of euphoria. However, this will vanish after just a couple of hours. What you have to keep in mind are the things that you’re bound to experience later on. Shortness of breath, and even heart, liver, and kidney diseases are what you’re going to go through if you keep on taking heroin. Wouldn’t you much rather have real happiness rather than a couple hours of bliss just because of a drug? Think about it. Doing drugs isn’t going to help you. It’s just going to make things a lot harder for you later on. Just live your life and choose happiness. It’s not easy, but drugs aren’t going to be of any help to you. Cheer up!
