The number depends on the nicotine dependancy of the smoker. Personally, I smoke 6-10 a day. My dad smokes about a pack of 25 per day, and my mom smokes 3-4 per day, all of varying strengths. In the end, it depends on the smoker.

Getting hard to breath around smoke, why?
Q: My mother smokes a ton. More than your average person. I’ve lived with it since the day I was born and it has never been hard to breathe around the cigarette smoke.Recently though, it has been getting harder and harder to breathe around it. I can’t figure out why. It’s been like this for months and it’s getting worse. Any ideas as to why?I am 14, heathy. Diagosed bipolar type II, insomiac and I have an unsolved fainting issue. I also don’t have asthema or any history of it in our family.
A: I’m willing to bet you have become allergic to the cigarette smoke. I also think your unsolved fainting issue could be related to the smoke also. I, too, was born to parents that both smoked. I started smoking when I was 15. I quit smoking when I was 20. Shortly afterwards, I was having sore throat, and other symptoms. My Dr. said I was allergic to cigarette smoke. I didn’t quite believe him. But now, 30 years later, if I get hit in the face with cigarette smoke, I will have an INSTANT asthma attack/anaphylactic reaction. I have had to go to the Emergency room twice because of it. I would talk to your Dr. about the cigarette smoke exposure.
Question about normal people turning christian….?
Q: My neighbor had been best friends with someone since they were in grade school. Neither attended church except on special occasions, both would indulge in an occasional drink, cuss just like the average person, both smoked cigarettes. Then one day my neighbors friend decided to start attending church on a regular basis, then he started attending church at least three times a week. No one was bothered by it. Then one day the friend of my neighbor decided they couldn’t be friends anymore. They had an argument over invited guests at my neighbors birthday party. My neighbor didn’t think it was serious enough to end a life long friendship but the friend decided that my neighbor was not a good christian and they should not be friends anymore. that’s the story in a nut shell. My question is…..Is the bible really a manual on how to brainwash and alter personalities?
A: I’ve had a similar thing happen when close life long friends suddenly became “New Christians” I’d say it was a form of brain washing with them to the point of obsession. But eventually the “high” wears off and things begin to go back to normal again. Don’t get involved in religious discussion or debate between them. It’ll wear off eventually, or if not, just let it be, as the reality of life soon pulls people back down to earth again.
Why is smoking legal? It should be a Class A drug!?
Q: I know the answer to this is most likely down to two things – Money from tax which funds the NHS and because it is so widespread and accepted all over the globe. However, smoking should be a class A drug!Smoking has a direct influence in the number or deaths caused by cancers due to the carcinogens in cigarette, which source [1] also proves. Deaths in males cased by lung cancer increased from 10 per 100,000 to 185 or so per 180,000 within 60 years, which is in pattern with the cigarette consumption per person per year [Consumption]. This consumption was at 4000 cigarettes per person per year. However source [2] shows us that by using the statistics given, the average smoker smokes about a pack per day. As a pack is often 20 cigarettes that means (20 * 365) = 7300 cigarettes are smoked by the average smoker every year. This is 1.75 times more than the peak of the graph in source [1] at about 4200 per year. There is a 20 year lag in the graph between the increase in smokers and the increase in deaths caused by lung cancer. So, the government of not just the UK, but every god damned nation has statistics every where that prove the effects of smoking not only effect those who smoke but those around them too.The government probably makes a lot of money from cigarette tax which pays for part of the NHS. They claim they need the money for the NHS but the only reason they need it is to treat the very smokers whose tax came from the >drugs< that are killing them. So if nobody smoked we wouldn`t need so much money in the system anyway. So why isn`t the governement doing something about it. If a 16 year old with little resources apart from basic statistics, some intelligence and common sense can come to this resolution how on earth can a government not work it out.Tobacco (and most definately alcohol too) would be class A drugs if they were introduced now, so why can it not be removed completely. It has an immediate short term effect which is critical to the body. It has a long term effect which is critical to the body. It is an addictive substance. It causes harm to those other than those taking it. What idiot of a stupid government cannot work it out and do something about it!What can be done to make it illegal? Quality of life, health, wealth and general; well being will be improved dramatically if smoking was illegal, however why isn`t the government making it illegal? What is everyones views and opinions on this and what do you think can be done?Sources – [1] http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/94/Cancer_smoking_lung_cancer_correlation_from_NIH.svg/326px-Cancer_smoking_lung_cancer_correlation_from_NIH.svg.png[2]http://www.chacha.com/question/how-many-cigarettes-does-an-average-smoker-smoke-in-one-dayFair comments. But why should people have the right to harm themselves whils;t harming others around them almost as badly?Good comments. What makes it sound it sound like hitler? That was a dictatorship that rose to power by the factors of fear, threats and loss of hope in a corrupt country. This is a question with no threats, no fear that looks for hope in othere peoples eyes. You need to learn your history…Keep your views coming people! Also Hitler had a lack of opposition after his change of tactics in Mein Kamf and censorship once he had become chancellor……. (soz, didn`t finish sentence) … and I am asking people to give their opinions to this =p lol
A: I’m amazed that anyone here is disagreeing with you! Of course it should be illegal! And so should alcohol. And so should anything one ingests that causes them physical harm which has definitely been scientifically and medically proven to cause physical harm. And with cigarettes, the cigarette smoke affects the health of those around them, not just the smoker. Why isn’t it illegal? There’s some sort of corruption in the government, in the judicial system, in the police departments, corruption everywhere. And probably the cigarette companies are all paying people in government to not make it illegal. What can be done about it? I don’t know. Wish I had an answer to that one.People just have to get more educated and realize the harm it is doing to their bodies and then quit smoking. And people have to face and deal with and process through their emotions and traumas instead of stuffing it all by smoking a cigarette that’s full of toxic poisons.
