Q: i was reading up on yahoo answers and i got freaked out because today i was experimenting with nail polish (FOR MY NAILS, NOT TO HUFF IT INN), so therefore also had to use nail polish remover. does it really lose all that many brain cells? nothing close to like smoking right?thanks 😀
A: … Brain cells? I don’t see how nail polish and remover could go from your fingertips all the way up to your brain. As far as I know nail polish does not harm your brain unless you like to sniff it a lot – then that might be possible. Anyway, just a tip, when you’re experimenting w/ nail polish colors, remember to have a base coat so the polish does not stain your nails yellow.

A: The chemical solvents in nail polish and remover CAN be harmful, if inhaled directly or often. To avoid this, use only in well-ventilated areas. I wouldn’t worry about killing off your brain cells, if you use nail products with care.If you’re still worried, choose non-acetone nail polish removers, and use only nail polish brands that are “big 3-free.” That means they don’t contain dibutyl phthalate (DBP), formaldehyde and toluene, which can be harmful to one’s health.OPI and Sally Hansen are two brands that are big 3-free. Check the labels of other brands to see if they’ve omitted the chemicals as well.

A: don’t worry about it. you’re smelling acetone. you’d have to huff it often and for a long time to cause any ill effects. it’s a volatile solvent that evaporates fast which is why it stinks up the place.
