Nothing, he is not going to stop until or unless he wants to. This has to be his decision and all the threats or promises in the world won’t make him stop unless he wants to stop.

well if you are a friend and this person is a good friend tell this person he/she needs help till they get it you do not want to be with this person. you are judged by the people you hang with. unfair i know.

A: I hear ya. I usually stay out of other peoples business though and let them do whatever they want. That is probably why they are doing those things in the first place – they dont feel accepted in this world and you confronting them or asking them about it might make them feel even more of an unaccepted outcast. If its a close friend or family member I would try to say how it hurts you to see them like that and that you want to know if anything is wrong. The most valuable help I have ever gotten from someone else is seeing them live true to themselves.
