Which has a higher risk of giving someone lung cancer Marijuana use or Tobacco use?
Q: Which has a higher risk of giving someone lung cancer Marijuana use or Tobacco use? Im just wondering about cancer risks not whether it should be legalized or not.
A: Tobacco since it also has so many other chemicals in it.Marijuana smoking can cause emphysema because you breath it in deeper and hold it longer, also because the smoke coming from the joint can be hot which also damages your throat and lungs. They sell devices called pot vapourizers that burns off all the harmful chemicals and gives you a fresh blast of THC, but they cost close to $1000.
Is there a link between marijuana use and lung cancer?
Q: The link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer is so clear. Is the same true for marijuana? It seems the way it is smoked (held in the lungs for as long as possible) would make it more carcinogenic that cigarette smoke. Any data on this?
A: you can find data supporting either argument – that marijuana doesnt cause lung damage and that marijuana does cause lung damage. its important to see who is publishing the data. if you are reading something from the american medical association, who has performed studies and tests, then i would believe it. if you are reading something published by the marijuana society of america that states that marijuana does NOT cause any lung problems, i would probably question it.personally, i think ANYTHING you inhale can cause lung damage. it is proven that things like second hand smoke, pollution, inhaled chemicals can all cause lung cancer and lung disease. so why not marijuana too? it is a foreign substance to the body that is inhaled directly into the lungs, and i am sure it has some kind of chemical or oil in the plant itself that enters and coats the lungs. but that is my personal opinion – im sure you could find data on this on the web, just be careful of who is publishing the information and what their opinion is because the data they publish may be self serving.
Ok, is it possible to get lung cancer from marijuana?
Q: I’ve heard so many different answers for this. I’ve been smoking it about a year now and I’m just curious. I’ve checked all over the internet but so far I haven’t found any site that’s said there is actually been a case where someone has gotten lung cancer from smoking it.
A: Mayxhemxx – Well, it’s like this, with no preaching! In limited scientific studies to date, smoking marijuana causes slightly more irritation than tobacco, the same type of changes that in cigarette smokers can lead to smoker’s cancer. If you smoked as many and as much marijuana as people smoke cigarettes, cancer would most likely result, BUT it is not likely that anyone will smoke 2 to 3 packs of “weed.” per day. Sooo, a pure marijuana smoker is much less likely to get cancer but will likely develop bronchitis. Tobacco is regulated, but MJ is not. That means occasionally batches of MJ may and will be secretly laced with other substances such as heroin or LSD without the buyer knowing it. Further, our American genius has successfully improved the marijuana plants grown so that current MJ is almost 20 times stronger than what our parents’ generation had experienced. It will likely be many years before any well-controlled scientific studies provide a valid answer to your valuable question.
