For many many different reasons. 1)The tissue sample may be examined to determine the genetic code of a specific gene(s) being studied and to compare the sequences for a large number of samples, for example cancer biopsys and non-cancerous ...

3-5 different reasons why a scientist would extract DNA from a tissue?
Q: I'm not sure of what I already know so if anybody knows the answer to this "not so question like" question, help??
A: * to do forensic DNA fingerprinting (e.g. compare DNA of a suspect to that found at a crime scene)* to study SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms), eg. to see whether a certain disease is associated with a certain mutation* to see if a tissue is infected with a certain virus (e.g. HIV)* to determine which bacteria are present on e.g skin* to see if a certain gene is present in a plant
Im doing my lab for biology and im having some problems completing the analysis questions.?
Q: The lab can be found here: http://rapidshare.com/files/80798704/BerryFullofDNA.pdf.html1. Describe the DNA you extracted. How was the appearance of the DNA similar or dissimilar to what you have learned inConcept 11.2 about DNA structure?2. A person cannot see a single strand of cotton thread from30 meters away, but if thousands of threads are wound together into a rope, the rope can be seen at some distance. How is this statement an analogy to the DNA extraction you did?3. DNA dissolves in water, but not in ethanol. Explain what happened when the ethanol came in contact with the strawberry extract during the DNA extraction.4. In order to study human genes, scientists must first extract the DNA from human tissues. Would you expect the method of DNA extraction for human DNA to be the same as the method you used to extract DNA from strawberries? Why or why not?5. List two possible scientific questions that could be explored by studying strawberry DNAAny help is appreciated!
A: I'll help you if you can upload the lab elsewhere. . .
DNA extraction Question for AP biology?
Q: 1) when ethanol was added to the homogenized strawberries, DNA precipitated out of the solution. DNA is not soluble in ethanol, but is in water. Wat does that tell you about the chemical nature of the DNA?2) In order to study our genes, scientists must first extract the DNA form human tissue. WOuld you expect the method of DNA extraction for strawberries be the same for human DNA? why or why not?3) Woudl teh DNA be the same from any celll in the human body? WHy4) If you wanted to extract DNA from a living person, what type of cells would you use and why?5) Give 1 reason why scientist might want to study the DNA of strawberries?
A: 1) DNA is hydrophobic? I did this earlier this year but I don't have my lab journal with me to answer.2) Yes because the composition of the cell membrane is the same and you need to break through the cell membrane to extract the DNA.3) No because the DNA codes for different things in each cell, depending on the cell's job. The nucleotides would be the same though (A,T,C,G)4) Skin cells because they are easy to get to.5) To learn about genetic diseases of strawberries?
