Q: Already asked this but didnt get a good answer so Ill repete it. Thanks for any advice! My 12 week old australian shepherd puppy has had loose stool for a while now. It is not diarrhea but getting closer each day it seems. He is eating Blue Buffalo puppy food the chicken and brown rice formula. He was eating Purina puppy chow from the breeder at 8 weeks. He has been eating nly Blue Buffalo for a few days now and his stool is getting really soft. It almost looks formed but when i go to pick it up (with bag) it is like really soft and mushing and smears into the grass. It is also really dark in color sometimes almost black. (BB does have black bits, called LifeSource bits in the food so maybe that is why its so dark?)I took him on a hike yesterday and he did a really soft one (not formed at all I would basically call this diarrhea) It was the soft he has ever had. It was more formed look this morning but when i went to pick it up same story (so soft i could barley get it with some just smearing into grass)Is the Blue Buffalo not working for him? I thought it was soposed to be a good brand… Is it too rich for him??Why is his stool so soft? What is normal for a 3 month old puppy stool to be like? (I read that puppies do have softer stool and it gets harder when older…) Does he need a new brand? (if so name some i can get at petco/petsmart only please.)Ugh! Help?Just to verify: He HAS been seen by a vet, fecal sample done he is clean and healthy but is just not having solid stool.Yes he was transitioned over a period of a week or so (25, 50, 75 then 100%)And yes lol he eats everything! Dirt, leaves, roots, grass, twigs, algea (on our walk to the waterfall). When we went on teh walk and it was super soft it was a more brownish color.
A: He probably has the soft stool due to a combination of things. Blue Buffalo might not be the right food for him, you can try another high quality brand like canidae or wellness. Also, him eating all those bad things like grass and stuff is going to mess with his digestion. If the vet says he’s fine just trying switching his food and try not to let him eat too much bad stuff but I know that’s not always possible. Good Luck!
It’s not diarrhea but……?
Q: It’s really soft mushy stool though, it’s really gross and embarrassing but it’s strange. I had to use the restroom and my stool came out as normal then I had to strain a bit, I didn’t think anything of it until I wiped. It went from normal stool to this mushy really dark brown soft stool. It had the consistency of a thicker version of pudding. Does anyone know why this would happen?Things to know,I don’t have a gallbladder as of about 6 months but that is it, and I’ve never had trouble with my bowel movements after it was taken out.
A: most likely something you ate. i have IBS (Irratle Bowel Syndrome) and i have days when BM is normal then a little later it gets lose, then diarrhea. try taking some pepto bismol or something to stop loose stool. i take a perscription for my IBS. and if this keeps on for more than 48 hours, i’d suggest you do to the doc. and he/she will tell you a whole lot more than anyone on here can.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irritable_bowel_syndromehttp://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/ibs_ez/look @ the websites above and look @ the symptoms and compare with your sumptoms.Crohn’s Disease is also somthing you may have:: look @ the website belowhttp://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/crohns/index.htm
