Q: ok what is the difference between—-a spine injury and inflammation of the spine?i am wondering because i was injured in a car accident and the docs are telling me that it is just by coincidence the inflammation came on my spine by a autoimmune disorder and not a injury so he diganosed me with transverse myelitis just dont make sence my spine is swollen but i was hurt…. whiplash i am just so confused anyone with any ideas?ohh btw transverse myelitis is caused by like diseases like chicken pox-some times baterial-a viral infection-sjogren’s syndrome-multiple sclerosis things like that i have none of those i cant even remember the last time i was sick even with a cold..P.S.i have had 3-4 family doctors look at me4 neuro’s doctors1 bone doctor1 bladder doctor1 oncology doctorand 1 rhuma doctor so i have had many second oppinions and some say it was trauma and some say it is a immune disorder which all my blood work came back great!! no bacteria! no infections!yes i have had MRI’s and CT SCANSi actually seen the pictured of my MRI of my spine i can see right where it is swollen at( T6 through T9 ) i have so much nerve damage that i know i will not recover ever

A: OK, first of all as an RN I am less-than-impressed with physicians lately, especially family practice. A spinal injury is just that – caused by an injury or trauma to the area. Inflammation is just swelling, whether caused by trauma, bacteria, virus, or any multitude of sources. If your labwork is normal, I find it hard to believe that it is autoimmune. Labwork would confirm an autoimmune disorder. Have you had a CT scan or MRI? If you were in an accident it is very likely to be the cause of your inflammation. It takes very little impact to cause trauma to the spine and once damage is done it can be very hard to reverse. Some people unfortunately never return to their baseline. Perhaps you need to see a physical therapist. They can do wonders in that area. Hope this helps!
