What could the cause of an enlarged kidney be?
Q: I have had an ultrasound done. Doctors originally thought I had a hernia, but the image showed that my left kidney has a dark mass on it and is enlarged. The accompanying letter said something about it might be representing a ‘column of bertin’. Im going for further tests next monday. In the meantime, can anyone give some insight as to why an otherwise healthy person’s kidney could just become enlarged that way? No other health problems experienced thanks
A: there are an extremely large number of possibilities, some are very serious others are nothing, it would only worry you more to know by asking someone who hasnt seen you in person
What could be the cause of an enlarged kidney?
Q: Basically, I’ve been having some pain in my lower back on both sides but mainly on my right side. I went to my doctor about it & she referred me to have an ultrasound. During this I was told that my right kidney appeared to be enlarged & it wasn’t draining properly (or something like that). I wasn’t really told anything else, just that the results woulkd be passed on to my doctor within 7-10 days. I want to know what’s wrong! Any suggestions?
A: Hydronephrosis suspected.Obstructive uropathy is structural or functional hindrance of normal urine flow, sometimes leading to renal dysfunction (obstructive nephropathy). Symptoms, less likely in chronic obstruction, are pain radiating to the T11 to T12 dermatomes, anuria, nocturia, or polyuria. Diagnosis is based on results of bladder catheterization, ultrasonography, CT, cystourethroscopy, cystourethrography, or pyelography, depending on the level of obstruction. Treatment, depending on cause, may require prompt drainage, instrumentation, surgery (eg, endoscopy, lithotripsy), hormonal therapy, or a combination of these modalities.Consult a Nephrologist.
what are the risks to a fetus with an enlarged kidney, and an enlarged part of the brain?
Q: I am 18 weeks pregnant with a baby girl. I recieved an ultrasound today that showed an enlarged left kidney, and a part of the brain was enlarged. I have never had this problem in any of 6 pregnancies. I did have one child born with cleft lip and cleft pallet.
A: the risks would include brain damage leading to mental deficits. An enlarged kidney, to kidney damage and failure. You have my sympathies.
