Pelvic Inflammatory Disease? Damage?
Q: I am a 21 yr. old female. I will fully admit that I haven’t been very wise with my sexual partners in the past. I have been in a serious relationship for 2 years now & he has been my only partner. I have never ever ever had a std. I have been diagnosed with ovarian cyst that are quite severe. They cause me a lot of pain and issues. I constantly get yeast infections, always have vaginal itching, and my discharge is always weird. I have within the past few months begun to worry that I might have pelvic inflammatory disease. I might just be a hypochondriac (sp?), but I have every symptom (with the exception of getting an std) & am exteremely concerned w/ the fact that it causes scar tissue & can lead to infertility…Does any one know how PID progresses & what type of damage it can do over time? If I have had PID, it’s probably been at least two years, & the fact that I constantly visit the doctors & this has never been explored just freaks me out! What if there’s already too much damage?Garden- you act as though I was a total floozy. I only had unprotected sex with one other person besides my current bf. The other person and I were together for a long time as well, and the only reason I “didn’t choose wisely” was because he cheated and I didn’t know until later. That’s the only time I’ve risked any type of std. But as I said before, I’ve never had one, nor did I involve myself in promiscuous behavior. thanks though…
A: There are other causes of PID than sexually transmitted infections.PID can be caused by a whole range of organisms….-Chlmaydia-Gonorrhea-Rarely viruses and protozoa (Herpes simplex, Trichomonas)-Genital tract mycoplasmas which are naturally occuring-Anaerobic bacteria-Aerobic bacteria (E.coli, Streptococcus spp., H.influenzae)So, you don’t necessarily have to contract an STI to get PID. And up to 2/3 of cases go unrecognized…..it is very difficult to diagnose. You may or may not have PID. If you are up front with your doctor and describe your symptoms and your fears that it may be PID, s/he should be able to either put you at ease, or do further testing. Good luck
PID? Please help.?
Q: I have recently been told that 3 years ago when i had cylamidia that i also got PID but this has only been treated a week ago. everything i have been told or read says that the longer you have it the worse your tubes get. i am panaking that i may not be able to have children. me and my partner are not ready to try but have decided to in 2 years time – is this too late and what else can i do to see how much damage has been done because the doctor says there is nothing her can do.i hadnt heard of PID and i though once the cylamidia was cleared that was the end of it just to be more careful in the future. if i had known i would have got treated for it. I am extremely mad with the clinic that treated me for cylamidia i think they should have told me all the risks ect…
A: Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. Your research has been correct, the longer you have the disease the higher the risk of becoming sterile. You may want to suggest to your OBGYN that you would like to have exploratory surgery to see if in fact your tubes have been scarred. This can be done laproscopically and requires no down time generally. If the provider you are seeing is not willing to do it, for a reason that you are not satisfied with, exercise your right to seek good health care and get a second or even a third opinion.

A: You could definitely do it. Your hair isn’t that dark so I don’t see the problem. I went from black to blonde with minimal damage. As long as you get it done professionally (your aunts) then you’re fine. I think it’ll look super cute especially for the summer! Just stock up on some deep conditioner!
