What nutritional info should I be looking for on lables during a diet? What should I eat and not eat?
Q: I am a 33 year old male. 6ft & 275lbs. I have a very large build so my ideal weight is around 200lbs not the 185lbs that you will find on most charts. I have started a diet. I am a little confused about what I am trying to avoid to get the best results from my diet. Calories, Calories from fat, carbs….. ? I have for the last week been looking only at the total calories in food and limiting my caloric intake to 800 to 1000 a day. Plus drinking massive amounts of water. I have lost 12 pounds. I do not know if it is ok to eat apples, bananas, oranges and such. I keep getting different answers. What I really need is to sit down with a nutritional consultant but there are not any in my area. Does anyone have any advice or know of a nutritional consultant that can contacted by phone? A web site? I am willing to pay for a service of this kind.
A: It comes down to how many calories you use during the day compared to the calories you eat. I think a lot of people forget about serving sizes when it comes to food. Just think if you ate an entire bag of pretzels like a bag of rold gold prezels that have no fat but have 15 servings in it that are are 100 calories per serving, if you ate the entire bag, that’s 1500 calories. that’s more than half of your caloric intake. You could drink sodas all day and not eat a thing and will gain weight if you don’t use the calories you consume. It doesn’t matter where the calories come from, it’s how much you use in comparieson to what you in take. Like for me, if i know i’m going to go out and eat or drink more than usual or if i’m going out to drink beer. that day I make sure I do some more cardio. You just need to count your calories. Everyhting now has nutrional facts on it. That’s why wieght watchers works so well, because if you stick with their foods, they have counted all the calories in the meals instead of people having to calculate everything, like when i make a turkey sandwhich, i have to get the calories from the bread, turkey , mayo , cheese and lettuce and have to estimate really ont he calories. this website is great for calories http://www.calorie-count.com/
