make steamed broccoli and cauliflower taste better?
Q: i just steamed broccoli and cauliflower and i was wondering what i could add to make it taste better/less bland...also whats another way i could cook these vegetables?
A: Cover them with cheese sauce, or salsa, or spaghetti sauce with Parmesan cheese, or with Alfredo sauce. Any of these would spice up broccoli and cauliflower. You could also grill these vegetables. Grilling brings out the sugars to the surface. Throw some onions and tomatoes onto the grill with them, and you are set for a feast. Boil the cauliflower like potatoes until soft, and mash like potatoes with butter, sour cream, salt, and a bit of milk. Delicious!
As a catabolic food, is broccoli/spinach/cauliflower better raw or cooked?
Q: It sounds like a dumb question, but the only website I found directly referencing the issue of food prep said all three were best if cooked. Can anyone find a different citation?Let me rephrase my explanation of my question. I would think that these food would be a higher grade catabolic when eaten raw, but the website (listed below) says they are more successful catabolics cooked. I thought that sounded wrong but couldn't find anythinf to disprove. Can someone else? (please cite your source)http://hometown.aol.com/empireana/page6.html
A: Actually, you kill the natural enzymes when you cook your food (except for tomatoes). There is a lot of info out there about the benefits of a mostly raw food diet. You don't have to be 100% raw foodist, but you may want to not cook everything all the time. It's better for you not to!
Need a good broccoli & cauliflower salad recipe?
Q: I am wanting to know if anyone has a good recipe for a broccoli & cauliflower salad recipe....when we eat at this catfish restaurant they have the best one and from what I can tell it has broccoli/cauliflower, chopped red onions, bacon, sugar cause it is a little sweet but I'm not sure how they make the dressing that's on it...it tastes like it could be mayonnaise with ranch mixed in or sour cream or something, I just know it's delicious! Does anyone make anything similar to this??
A: This is a recipe that my family loves:Ingredients:Cauliflower, Brocolli, Carrots, Purple Onions (optional), Cheddar Cheese, Mozeralla Cheese, and Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix (follow the directions on the pkg)Directions: Break cauliflower and brocolli into bite size pieces (I find that if you cut them with a knife they tend to get bitter), add sliced carrots, chopped onions, and bite sized pieces of cheddar and mozeralla cheeses, then pour the dressing mix over the mixture cover and place in the refrigerater overnight. I don't tend to give amounts as you can see, I just judge the amounts by how many are coming to dinner. This is a really good salad, my family has enjoyed it for years
