Q: I was on Petco .com and i found a sand called Bone -Aid and it said that it was 100 percent digestible and ingestible and really small grain. I know the risk of impaction but it said it was safe. And since i gut-load and dust my leos food with calcium powder there is no reason for it to eat sand. What are your thoughts on this
A: if its under like 5 inches u shouldnt put it in a sand tank, once the gecko(s) get 5 inches it shouldnt matter then.
Is it safe for my hamster to eat its treat coated in bathing sand?
Q: I have a 1 year-old sapphire winter white hamster, and everytime I put a dried banana piece as a treat in its food dish, it likes to put it in its mouth and move it into the ‘toilet’, thus coating the banana with the bathing sand. I am not sure if it is still eating the banana in the ‘toilet’, but the sand in the ‘toilet’ is not wet as my hamster does not like to pee in the ‘toilet’, it only cleans itself in the ‘toilet’. Do any of you all know if it is still safe if my hamster decides to eat that piece of banana which is coated with sand?

Is it safe to put sand in my rats cage for it to poop in?
Q: My cousin puts sand in a little open container for her hamster to poop in so she has an easier clean up but would it be safe for a rat? I tried this with the sand i had in my sand box and my rat seemed to be eating it so i took it out. Does it have to be a special sand?
A: Rats definitely will use a litter box if you provide one but using sand is not a good idea. I’m not sure what kind of sand you’re talking about but there are many commercial products out that are specially made for small animals that have minimal dust and chemicals. Don’t use wood shavings such as cedar or pine as they can be toxic to small animals.I use a natural corn cob type litter for my little rattys and they do well with it. They know that this is litter and don’t eat it. It’s relatively dust free and absorbant and is easy to clean for me.Good luck in your search!
