A: It doesn’t “cancel out” the good water. But, yes, you should drink more. The 64 ounces is too low to start with. Much too low if you exercise. But the extra water you might sweat from the caffeine or sugarboosting your CNS would get covered by the 11 or so ounces of water in the 12 oz can of coke.

Q: I am having a hard time getting it all down. I have found that if I add a little bit of Crystal light for flavor that it’s easier to get it all down. My question is: Does that just defeat the whole purpose of drinking all that water? Or am I still doing something healthy for my body?
A: I wouldn’t say adding crystal light defeats the purpose of drinking all that water. My question would be why would you want to. Consider a different strategy. You don’t have to drink 8 ozs of water at a time, fruit juice also counts (and there are no sugar added types), and if you want healthy flavor (not sure, but I’m sure crystal light isn’t “light” on the chemicals) add a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice. Try drinking less water more often and see if that kind of regieme is more palatable for you.
