If I add lactaid to cream will the lactase in the milk process the lactose in the cream?
Q: Ok so my girlfriend is lactose intolerant, but she happens to love icecream. So she eats it and within half an hour is in the bathroom. This works for her. However, for her birthday i was going ot make her an icecream cake and take her to a park to celebrate. I was wondering if I add lactaid (milk treated with lactase) to cream will the enzymes process the lactose in the cream? Or have the lactase enzymes been destroyed or removed prior to shipment of lactaid?
A: I don't know about adding the milk for sure, but I will suggest that you buy her "Lact-aid" or "Dairy ease" they are pills (kind of like Certs breath mints) that contain the enzyme that breaks down the lactose. I think they also have dissolving strips like Listerine breath strips, that does the same as the pills. At one point they had the drops that you just put on the food and it was ok to eat Haven't seen those since I was about 8 years old though, boy do I miss them.
