Q: I'm trying to go on a protein diet since I'm working out at the gym in hopes of gaining some muscles. I was wondering which has more protein, chicken or beef/steak? Because I heard from some people that it's beef, but some also say it's chicken because steak contains a lot more fat, but I don't know. Someone please help and I'll pick the best answer, THANKS!!!!

Why isn't there a good amount of protein in chicken like there is in beef or red meat?
Q: I've always heard chicken (white meat) doesn't have a whole lot of protein while beef and pork is always a great protein source. Does it have to do with muscles? Please be specific.
A: This is not true - all muscles, white or red, are composed almost entirely of protein. However, red muscle is a little denser (heavier per unit volume) than white muscle, having to do with the performance of the muscle when alive, so a cup of cooked beef is heavier than a cup of cooked chicken and contains slightly more protein. By weight, there is not enough difference to matter for protein nutritional purposes. The biggest difference is that white muscle is not marbled - there is no fat embedded in the meat - so there is less cholesterol from an ounce of chicken that an ounce of prime beef.
