Could I sell my Bob Ross paintings if I painted them myself?
Q: I'm thinking of taking Bob Ross painting classes. When I'm finished, I'd like to be able to sell my paintings at the flea market, or at outdoor malls, or at shows or festivals. If I learn the Bob Ross techinques, would I be able to sell them legally or are there laws that would prevent me from doing so as I will be using the techniques of another painter?
A: You can sell the paintings. Every painter is using someone elses techniques-the teacher they learned from, the teachers, teacher and so on. If you copy a bob ross painting exactly, you have to let it be known that it is a bob ross copy. Using his techniques with an original painting of your own is perfectly legal. I do believe if you look in bob ross's books it may say something like you can copy his paintings but not for commercial purposes.

A: I dont know about the laws, but just so long as the picture is different from what the artestdidthen it wouldnt matter what technique you used. Every persons interpretation on instruction is different. Neither are two peoples art. The differences your art would have from his would vary. You end up also taking that tecgnique and forming into something of your own after so long. Thus making it your own style.
