What types of cancer are untreatable?
Q: Can most cancers be cured/treated, which ones can’t?
A: Usually once you are diagnosed with cancer you will carry that cancer stage through-out your treatment. Untreatable cancers are ones that are discovered in stage 4; however, it is treatable. Personally a co-worker’s wife has had stage four colon cancer for the last eight years. It has gone to her bones, her lungs, and back to her colon and her oncologist is able to keep it at bay allowing her to live as normal life as possible under the circumstances.A lot of stages of cancer will determine statistically how long a person will be alive five years after diagnosis of the disease. For instance my wife had breast cancer stage two b. Statistically she has about an 85% chance of survival living five years after diagnosis. But every year past that the doctors would say that “There is no evidence of the disease” Her radiation oncologist did say that she was cancer free, and it made us happy, so we will live with that.If there is a cure for cancer it is very harsh at best. Many that survive live with the after effects of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery for the rest of their lives.Even in the worst cases of cancer there are clinical studies that are on the verge of being mainstream. And those that appear to have no hope can gain some in these studies. As a previous cancer patient that has gone through the harsh treatments every day alive is one day cancer had not claimed their lives.
What are some types of cancer…?
Q: That can be found from a patient throwing up massively, loosing balance, etc. I am writing a story and I can’t figure out what to diagnose the main character with. Also, it wasn’t found even though it had been there for years. It can’t be cured either. Please help! Thanks!
A: It could be a brain tumor. this causes the symptoms that you describes plus severe headaches that get a lot worse when the patient lays down. it can also cause changes in personality and behavior of the patient. tumors in certain locations in the brain cannot be operated on as it is too risky, therefore it can be classed as being incurable in that manner. All the best with your story
Has there been a cure for Cancer? This may or may not be true…?
Q: My Social teacher is from Czech (i think) and she knows a lot of people from Former soviet union. She told us in class that her uncle knew a man who had researched Cancer all of his life. This man soon began to find a cure, not just for one type of cancer, but all of them. She tells me that the people he cured are still alive. But because when he found this cure that it was in a communist way, so as soon as the government found out about it, they killed him and destroyed all forms of documents/resources that he worked on just because they were scared that releasing this cure would be such a money maker that it would destroy businesses.Wow…if this is true….i almost can’t believe it. Who knows what there is cures for, they probably haven’t released them just because of the economy and for other peoples money who haven’t ever experienced someone die with cancer.
A: It’s nonsense – a variation on the ‘hidden cancer cure; conspiracy theories we see most days on this forum. These conspiracy theories are a sort of game played by people who’ve never had, studied or been close to cancer and know zilch about it.Who exactly would benefit from keeping a cancer cure secret?Drug companies? No secret they’re in it for the money. And any drug company discovering a cure would make far more money than they can have dreamed of making up till now – fame and fortune beyond their wildest dreams.Doctors? Scientists? Researchers? They and their families develop cancer at the same rate as the rest of the population, They’d be watching their relatives die and dying themselves rather than revealing the secret cureGovernments? In the UK we dont pay for our medical treatment. including cancer treatment. So cancer treatments cost our government billions upon billions, but the treatments are the same as elsewhere. If there were an existing, cheaper, guaranteed cure – BELIEVE ME that’s what they’d be paying for. As it is someone like me could be back at any time with a recurrence for more costly chemo. And our doctors are salaried – they wouldn’t make one extra penny if the cancer rate doubled tomorrow and the chemo rate with it. And they wouldn’t lose any money if the cancer rate dropped dramatically tomorrow. And how could this secret be kept? In order to prove that any secret, hidden cure worked, several hundred people would have to have been cured by it – lived out their long natural lives without the cancer reappearing (otherwise how would its discoverers know it worked?). Every single one of these people over many years would have to be keeping quiet about it– not a word to the media from any of them, or any of their delighted relatives and friends. The trouble with finding a ‘cure for cancer’ is that cancer is hundreds of diseases, not just one. The difficulty is that different cancers are caused by different things, so no one strategy can prevent them, and different cancers respond to different treatments so no one treatment can cure them all.Although there’s no guaranteed cure for any cancer, some cancers can already be cured thanks to the cancer esearch that has been done so far.Seven out of ten children are cured of cancer. Testicular cancer, Hodgkin’s disease, and many cases of leukaemia can all be cured in adults with chemotherapy, most skin cancers are cured with surgery, and many cases of thyroid cancer and cancer of the larynx are cured with radiotherapy. Many other types of cancer are also cured if they are found early enough. There is still a long way to go of course, especially with some of the commonest types of cancer such as lung, breast, bowel and prostate cancer. There’ll never be a Eureka! moment when someone discovers a single substance or procedure that will reverse all cancers. But there will be progress; a way found to reverse one type of cancer, or a way to slow down others, or improved treatments
