What type of cancer is brain cancer?
Q: I have to do a project on cancer and I chose brain cancer. I have to list what kind of cancer it is (carcinoma, sarcoma, lymphoma, leukemia) and I can’t find anything about what type it is. I would really apreciate it if you could also give me a web site with further explanation alon with your answer. Thanks!
A: I commend you on your choice for a paper.I have multiple meningiomas. Doesn’t sound too bad right? Wrong! Mine are snaking through everywhere in my brain, into my sinuses, in my left eustacian tube, fused into the bones in my face and wrapped around my carotid artery. And this is AFTER they did surgery, radiation and two sinus surgeries. Due to the location of some of the tumors (including the carotid artery), I have what is considered a benign malignant tumors. In other words, the tumor itself is generally considered benign but due to the location it is considered malignant. There are many types of brain tumors: astrocytomas, neuroblastomas, ganglios, meningiomas, etc. What causes them to turn into cancer is caused in part on location, grade of tumor (usually Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 4 – with 4 being the most deadly), size and type. The best place for more infomation is to check out the ABTA (American Brain Tumor Association). Also check the National Institutes of Health, The American Cancer Society and the Brain Tumor Foundation.Thank you for having the courage to do this project. I wish there were more like you.

smooth Pearly Bump on arm, Basal cell carcinoma? it’s been there for 3 years with no change?
Q: My grandmother has some sort of smooth bump on her arm with little white specs on the inside. She went to her doctor and she said she had it for 3 years and he said not to worry about it. Another doctor then told her it was nothing, she could get it taken off by a small operation. Some members of my family told her it was a type of cancer but they aren’t medical professionals. Wouldn’t the doctors tell you flat out if it was cancer? But if it was Basal cell carcinoma or another kind of skin cancer why didn’t it expand or grow at all in 3 years? My grandmother is going to a dermatologist in a month and plans to ask for a 3rd opinion can that doctor tell her what it is exactly?
A: Anything unusual on the skin, get in checked at a skin clinic. If still insure,. have it removed, its no big deal. My husband had 2 unusual moles, they were checked by 4 specialists who all said they were fine, I insisted they were removed and they were both bloody melanomas! Trust your gut instinct, its usually right.
