What are the chances of a 21 year old non-smoker getting lung cancer?
Q: Use to have people smoke around me and didn’t mind, but that doesn’t happen very much anymore.
A: Dear Party Boy, there are no guarantees in life. The older you get, the more you realize this. At 21 years old, and a non-smoker at that, why are you wasting time wondering about lung cancer? All we can do in this dangerous place we live, is to do the best we can to avoid known stumbling blocks. Not smoking is a positive thing. Eat well, exercise often, love hard and give much. Hopefully you will be around this earth to feel satisfied that you lived a long enough time. Don’t squander time worrying about things you cannot control. Enjoy each day.
What are the chances of a 30 year old male non smoker getting lung cancer?
Q: My son is 30 years old, in very good shape, pumps iron, black belt karate, jogs daily seldom drinks and has never smoked. About a week ago he spit a little blood for a couple mornings just after waking up. So he went to a hospital to get it checked. They did a CT scan. Found a small white spot (about 1 cm. diameter ) on one of his lungs. Did a few other tests which came back negative. Gave him some antibiotics and other pills, told him to come back in three weeks for another CT. If there is no change or gets larger, they’ll do a biopsy. We are all so worried we can’t sleep. Anyone have any ideas. Or can someone point me to a good place to look for answers. I’m not the best when it comes to web searching. Thanks for your time and help.
A: It is very rare for a 30 year old to have lung cancer even if they smoke like a train 0.2% of all lung cancer occur in patients under 35 and I have to tell you pumping iron and all those other things maybe helpful in other areas they have very little to do with cancer. It does seem a little strange they would want to do a biopsy regardless of what it looks like in 3 weeks. Without having the information from his CT and his other work up it is difficult to tell you anything. I know you’re anxious and want answers now, but it just doesn’t work that way and there isn’t a website that can do it for you. From answering questions here I can tell you that it is often not a good idea for people to look for medical information prematurely as it only causes them to think of all sorts of things that are not realistic.
