What types of cancer are untreatable?
Q: Can most cancers be cured/treated, which ones can't?
A: Usually once you are diagnosed with cancer you will carry that cancer stage through-out your treatment. Untreatable cancers are ones that are discovered in stage 4; however, it is treatable. Personally a co-worker's wife has had stage four colon cancer for the last eight years. It has gone to her bones, her lungs, and back to her colon and her oncologist is able to keep it at bay allowing her to live as normal life as possible under the circumstances.A lot of stages of cancer will determine statistically how long a person will be alive five years after diagnosis of the disease. For instance my wife had breast cancer stage two b. Statistically she has about an 85% chance of survival living five years after diagnosis. But every year past that the doctors would say that "There is no evidence of the disease" Her radiation oncologist did say that she was cancer free, and it made us happy, so we will live with that.If there is a cure for cancer it is very harsh at best. Many that survive live with the after effects of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery for the rest of their lives.Even in the worst cases of cancer there are clinical studies that are on the verge of being mainstream. And those that appear to have no hope can gain some in these studies. As a previous cancer patient that has gone through the harsh treatments every day alive is one day cancer had not claimed their lives.
If you have 2 untreatable cancers, what are your chances of dying?
Q: Two untreatable cancers (esophagus and stomach), and you only eat 1 meal a day. Give me a percentage. I don't have the cancer, I know a friend of mine does. I don't know anything about stomach cancer but I do know eating fruits and veggies will prevent cancer. I am a bodybuilder, I eat 6 high protein meals a day and I have at least 1 serving of fruits per meal.
A: There are too many unknowns in your question. It all depends on the type of cancer your friend has, the stage that it's in, what treatment he is on and if it's working. Also how old your friend is, what is his general health condition, is there a strong family history of cancer. Does your friend smoke, chew tobacco or drink? Many people only eat one meal a day. Again, it depends on what he is eating and the quantity. Also, does he do any snacking during the day or is he on a high caloric, high protein drink such as Ensure?Has your friend expressed any wishes to you about whether he wants to be a full code or a no code?Without any specifics, his chances of survival are no better or worse than anyone else's.
Imagine that you just learned your mother had untreatable cancer. This is a WHAT IF question! Its 4 study!?
Q: Imagine that you have just learned your mother is suffering from an untreatable cancer. The doctor estimates that death can occur at any time within a few months and that your mother's pain will be considerable. Although drugs can alleviate some of the pain, the doctor honestly does not know how effective the pain relief will be. Your mother is 75 years old and aware of her condition. When you and her discuss her condition, she expresses a strong desire not to suffer to survive a few weeks or months. She asks you to help her obtain drugs that she can use to end her life peacefully whenever she chooses.1.) What actions do you take when she expresses her desire to end her life with your help?2.) Would you discuss this with her doctor?3.) Would you be concerned about legal problems if you did obtain the lethal drugs and gave them to your mother?4.) Do you feel that your mother has the right to end her life or do other organizations have the right to tell you and your mother how to act?
A: 1. I would help her. It's her wish. I would rather see her spending her last days kicking it up and being happy, but that's not an option if she's in so much pain.2. Yes, I would. I would tell him that she's interested in euthanasia. She wants to be put down in a safe way.3. No. I'm not concerned. I wouldn't want to go to jail, whatever. If I've worked it out with my doctor, then I should be fine.4. Yes. My mother has that right. People can tell us what to do, sure, but that doesn't mean we have to listen.
