A: very informative but what is your question?
Stupid acne gel caused erythema.?
Q: This is great!! Just 2 more weeks until my first year of high school, and even better!, tomorrow’s my cousin’s wedding. I just looked at the side affects for using Stievamicyn and i found ‘erythema’ which is a disorder that reddens your skin. I already discontinued the stupid acne gel product 2 days ago and it appears that it has gotten better. Forget the wedding tomorrow, but do you think it’ll heal in time in 2 weeks for high school. What types of things can I do at home to speed up the heeling process and I looked at possible future complications and this is what i found.Permanent skin damage and scarring Occasionally, lesions on internal organs causing: Pneumonitis (lung inflammation) Myocarditis (heart inflammation) Nephritis (kidney inflammation) Hepatitis (liver inflammation) Secondary skin infection (cellulitis) Systemic infection, sepsis Loss of body fluids, shock Can this possibly happen just because of a medication, or will it heal after i discontinued it. Thanks in advance
A: Well, I reckon some of those side effects are a bit far fetched. The vehicle that the antibiotic in Stiemycin is dissolved in is alcololic based so it probably irritates your skin although Acnes itself reddens skin.In all honesty benzyol peroxide, topical antibiotic lotions etc are a waste of money…you’re better off with minocycline antibiotic or go for the cure= accutane (Roaccutane)I went for Roaccutane at 30 years of age! In the waiting room we all talked about our acne and it was the same story..it ruined our lives, we were all single and we wished e’d tried roaccutane in our 20’s
What are the real chances of survivng a melanoma?
Q: Some of you may have answered some of my other questions, so here goes another one.My husband had a melanoma on the back of his neck which was removed in 1998. The question whether it was removed properly or not, nobody can tell.He died three months ago with the following: massive tumours on both kidneys, three tumours on liver, two big tumours on pancreas, metastatic lesions in the lungs, hundreds of tiny tumours on the small bowel (which caused it to rupture – he subsequently died of peritonitis) and a massive brain tumour. He also had small patches of basal cell carcinoma on his head. The surgeon who operated him said that all the tumours she saw were black. Are these melanoma related tumours, and if so is it possible for a melanoma to take ten years to develop into something so serious? I would have imagined that it would have gone a lot quicker.Thank you for your time.
A: Yes it is possible and happens more often than you realize. Melanoma is the most unpredictable cancer we know. It behaves strangely and initially may look like other types of cancer. Unless it is completely removed surgically we do not have any effective treatments against it. Let me give you some examples just from this past year.I had a case of a man who had a huge mass on his left kidney. It was so big the kidney itself could not be visualized on radiology. A biopsy was taken and was found to be kidney cancer on pathology. The man went into surgery. The tumor was so large the surgeon could not get it out and had to call another surgeon for help from the operating room. Once it was removed it was found to be a 28cm metastatic melanoma tumor. The tumor completely encased this man’s left kidney, yet the kidney itself was fine and healthy. The melanoma had not invaded it at all. This tumor was metastatic from a retinal melanoma the patient had 32 years ago. No other metastatic tumors were found anywhere.Another man in his mid 70s who had no medical conditions, was very active, loved to scuba dive and did so most of his life (I live in Los Angeles.), was very tan and made it a point to stay away from doctors. After a few months of having dizzy spells he forced himself to see a doctor who ordered a brain MRI where brain mets were found. On further workup liver mets were also found and a biopsy was taken. It was metastatic melanoma. Every inch of this man was examined, up his nose, between his toes, his scalp, everywhere. The only thing found was a tiny black dot under one of his fingernails. He had injured his hand 40 years ago and this little dot had remained since the injury, but he never gave it much thought. It had not changed or grown over the years, but it was the primary site of his melanoma. The best information we have is based on statistics from the information we keep. Doctors us this information along with their experience to best advise and treat their patients. We know the median survival time for metastatic melanoma is 6-7 months. This means half the patients with metastatic melanoma are still be alive in 6-7 months. Some may die at 2 months and others at 20 years. Clearly, most die sooner than later. We don’t know what makes some people live longer than others. We don’t know why melanoma can stay dormant for so long. There are so many things we don’t yet understand.I’m very sorry about your husband. I can understand why you want answers, but I am afraid no one can give them to you. I hope this information has helped you in some way. Maybe it helps to know you are not alone in this situation and to know the doctors were honest with you. Best wishes.
