Q: Also how often do normally healthy people get them that swell. I have a couple that swell about 2 inches in length and stick out about an inch and are about 1 inch wide. I have been having problems with swelling glands for about 12 years. But when I see doctors they just look at them and give me antibiotics. Most of the time without even doing blood test let along any other test. I am just curious if others experience this.oh no. That is terrible. The 2 that swell real large are in my groin,…and 1 in my neck that is a bit smaller.
A: i had one in my neck that went up and down for 6 months…turned out to be a cancer in my tonsil on that side. I found more in the chain below and behind it that made me press for a biopsy.

I have been having problems with swelling glands for about 12 years. But when I see doctors they just look at them and give me antibiotics. Most of the time without even doing blood test let along any other test. I am just curious if others experience this.I have only had strep throat as an adult 2 times. I am now 34. What is the normal size for lymph nodes to swell?I don’t have allergies or sinus problems. I do have astma however. Could that cause this? The one that gets the largest is in groin,…I have another that gets pretty big in my neck,…and on occasion there is one that is rock hard about the size of a nickel that has knots on it in my armpit. They cause some discomfort because of the areas in groin and underarm but mainly just pressure. hope this helps
A: The most common reason for swollen lymph glands is infection. But they can also be caused by Immune or auto-immune disorders, and cancer such as Hodgkins disease or non-Hodgkins lymphoma. You didn’t say where you felt your swollen lymph node, and that could make a difference. If you continue to be concerned ask your physician about these possible tests: Liver function tests, kindey function tests, cbc with differential, lymph-node biopsy, chest x-ray, and liver-spleen scan.If your physician isn’t answering your questions or you have doubts about your health care. I would possibly get a second opinion on the matter.
How large should a lymph node be before it is considered ‘swollen’?
Q: I’ve got this lymph node under my chin which has been enlarged (or according to me) for a while now. I have severe acne. Is acne a form of skin infection which may cause it to be like that? It’s not the size of a golf ball or a walnut – it’s just able to be felt and it hasn’t grown either.
A: Yes severe or cystic acne can cause this nodules under the skin around the neck area. My son who is a cystic acne sufferer has had a few suspicious looking lumps around his neck some of them were actually lymph nodes that were swollen due to the infection of the acne cyst. Do not panic or assume anything just go and see a doctor who will probably give you antibiotics to treat the infection and if the nodes don’t go away in time then probably further tests will be needed but I have a strong feeling that it is all related to the acne as I have seen with my son’s experience. With cystic acne or any severe acne the best advice I can give you is to eat healthy, drink lots (3litres) of plain water, keep of the sugar and flour staff, eat lots of raw fruits and veggies, exfoliate your skin to try to keep the pores unclogged so bacteria cannot survive (they don’t like oxygen) and when you get a pimple as soon as you see it get a cotton wool soak it in hydrogen peroxide and hold it on the pimple for about 10min, the Oxygen in the hydrogen will kill the bacteria do this until the pimple is gone, you can apply some sea salt with water to shrink the lesion and heal quickly, tea tree oil gel applied twice per day will help prevent outbreaks or benzoyl peroxide if you want to use it. All the best
