Can a local tumor in the lung spread to develop bone metases without affecting the rest of the lungs?
Q: My father has been diagnosed with non-small carcinoma in the right lung. The doctors also found a lesion in the back bone L4 which is reported as neoplastic. A biopsy on the lung tumor was performed and confirme malignancy. On that basis they are presuming that the bone lesion is also a malignant cancer tumor. However, what seems to be strange is that the CT scan results for the rest of the right lung, the left lung, abdomin, intestines, bladder, prostate, pancreas are totally clear. His oncology blood markers are also clear. The bone scan apart from the suspected lesion at L4 is totally clean, and his blood test results are acceptable. His general health conditions are good. He was on a diet, stopped it and gained 3KGS within a span of 10 days. He simply does not show any of the symptoms of a stage IV cancer patient. The doctors said they cannot operate because of the bone lesion. Had it been only in the lungs they would. We are concerned that they might be making the wrong connection
A: definitely get a second or third opinion.. this is too important!
My husband has cancer and I need know how help him?
Q: My husband Rich was having pain and found a lump in his nether regions and went to the doctor, where they suspected testicular cancer.Within a week he was having surgery to remove his testicle, then we had to wait a week for the results. They came back positive,he did have cancer, and unfortunately it had spread to the lymphnodes in his groin area.He had to have a 6 week intensive chemo session to shrink the tumors on his lymph nodes. After they shrunk he had major surgery and they removed the lymphnodes. The surgery is called RPLND.What they basically did was open him up from right below the sternum down to below his beely button, take everything out, remove the affected nodes, then put everything back in.He was in the hospital for almost 3 weeks,it would have been 10 days but he developed an abcess which required drainage and a week of antibiotics. He’s home now and is in misery.he doesn’t like to let on,but he hurts everytime he moves.he won’t accept help,so what can I do to assist him?BTW,he is 27.
A: Just be there for him. hold him and tell him you love him. Sit down and talk about the good times you both shared. I know writing this made you feel soooooo much lighter…God bless you
Just found out my dog has cancer… need help!?
Q: My 11 year old chocolate-lab just went in for her annual yearly checkup yesterday and her doctor discovered she had a tumor. After many x-rays and sonogram they discovered the cancer has spread to her lungs. She could have the major tumor removed, but not the one from her lungs. Also the surgery at most would only extend her life by a few months. Since she seems to be eating and walking fine we have decided not to get her the surgery so she could live her last days comfortably. The doctor predicts she will be dead within the next 3 months. Is there anything I can do to prolong her life?
A: My Dobermann Boris was four years old when he was diagnosed with aggressive skin cancer. The proposed treatment was major surgery & four sessions of carboplatin {chemotherapy} which wouldn’t be grueling, the average survival time was 6 ~ 12 months of good health, so I opted for treatment. With treatment he lived an additional 3.5 years {& he lived life to the full). At what point did I make the decision to have him put to sleep? When he developed multiple new tumors {not related to the original cancer} near many of his major organs, was rapidly losing weight & had been diagnosed with DCM, I knew that there was no quality time left for him. At that point he was put to sleep. I appreciated every extra day that the treatment afforded & would not hesitate to opt for treatment again, *if* it was in my dog’s best interest. If your dog has been assessed by a canine oncologist & the prognosis is that your dog has up to three months of quality time left, if it was my dog I would enjoy every golden day I had left with my dog. Whatever decision you make, I’m sure you will be guided by what is in your Labs best interest. Treatment isn’t always the best option for a dog diagnosed with cancer, but if you can prolong life in a way that’s in the dog’s best interest, as was the case with Boris, it can be very rewarding.
