He was 71.”The Maestro fought a long, tough battle against the pancreatic cancer which eventually took his life.
A: Well, I think he was, to me, the greatest tenor of his time. He had an incredible voice. I heard some stuff of his from the 70’s and 80’s and I have never heard a voice like it. To be fair, later in his life, by the time he was singing at football matches, his voice wasn’t what it once was, but it was still amazing. Perhaps now he is dead, and the recording companies will want to maximise their profit on this, they will release his greatest popular stuff, and the masses who know him only through his football stuff will get to hear just how incredible he was before then. He certainly did bring opera to the masses. I was raised on his music, my dad being an opera fan, and you could always distinguish his voice over that of any other tenor. My dad was so into him we even had a car sticker with I heart Pavarotti on it. He was a truly gifted man, its a shame he had such a battle before he finally got his release.
