What’s wrong with me? Can anyone help? Please, im really quite worried?
Q: Hi, my name is Sean and im 14 years old, soon to be 15It is quite common for me to spit phlegm (apologies for severly graphical description), mainly because i get a lot of it and always have done really. I suppose I can attribute this to my father, who also has the same issue, nevertheless; it is no big deal. About 2 months ago, at school i phlegmed a big spit of blood. The phlegm was in more of a liquid state; perhaps due to the quantity of blood. At first i was severly worried, but quite relieved after i blew blood out my nose. I presumed that it was originally a nose bleed that i had managed to phlegm instead, and that a nosebleed; even though a rarity for me, was nothing to become anxious about.Recently, in the past week (or weeks i cant recall from previous weeks that state of my phlegm) there have been small traces of blood in my mucus from phlegm. After amateur research, i found out that such a symptom could be attributed to a variety of medical problems, such as tuberculosis, lung cancer, pneumonia and bronchitis. However, most, if not all of these illnesses come with other blatant signs such as hoarse voice, coughing, struggle in movement, weightloss, chest pains. To my knowledge, i dont appear to be suffering with any of these, however a slight sore throat has developed; although, ironically i cant feel it now while typing. In conclusion i feel absolutely fine, other than the bloody sputum. My dad says he also gets blood in his phlegm, and has done for years, and hasnt the best of throats anyway. Id also like to point out that recently along with my bloody phlegm if i ever try to blow my nose, a minute spec of blood, or even bigger than that; a small trace may appear in the snot, but strangely enough, blood only comes from the left nostrel. I generally take this blood from the nose aspect quite positive, as it may be a sinus problem; and not a lung one. Im 14, ive never smoked (only tried it once, a year and a few months ago), none of my family smoke, nor my friends. As far as i know there have been no cases of lung cancer in any of my family.I see myself as a bit of a hyperchondriac lol, but im serious this time, and the only explanation i can think is lung cancer; as symptoms appear progressively over a long period of time; if i had tb or pneumonia i would clearly see the effects immiediately. Please, someone help put my mind at ease, its saturday now and im going to the doctors hopeflly on monday, but please could anyone put my mind at rest in the meantime. 🙁
