I’m nearing my breaking point with these headaches..?
Q: I’ve been on propranolol, a beta blocker, for about a year now in order to prevent daily headaches and migraines. I had been doing pretty well on the beta blocker. I was still having a pretty much daily headache, but atleast they weren’t severe and didn’t incapacitate me. I could push through them.I’m almost 4 months pregnant now, and since I got pregnant I’ve been having problems with my headaches.I chose to stay on the beta blocker because I was so incapacitated by my headaches before — the benefit outweighs the risks, which are minimal. I’m nearing my breaking point right about now. My head is killing me, and has been for about 4 days. This is a migraine. I understand that. But this is just, I have had a pretty bad headache since the DAY I conceived.I thought I could handle this without a higher dose of the beta blocker and without any pain medication — but I cannot enjoy my life like this. I’m miserable. All I want to do is curl up in a ball on the couch. I do dishes, laundry, go for groceries.. simple things.. and my head starts to pound and after about 20 minutes of my head pounding I get so incredibly tired.I feel like I’m some sort of wimp. If I can’t tolerate headaches, what am I going to do when I am in labor? The thing is, it’s not how bad — it’s how often. Labor lasts what, 2 weeks pre and 48 hard if you’re unlucky? And it stops and starts. This has been 4 months of me trying to smile and tell people I’m fine.Ugh! I told my midwife at my last visit that I’m starting to regret not taking the OB up on his offer of a pain killer, and she talked me out of it. I feel like, if I take the pain killer, codeine, I’ll have to take it every day. That is not a solution. Should I push them to find out if this is just chronic headaches — total fluke reaction to pregnancy — or if it’s something else? Like, could I have spinal fluid leaking or some sort of issue with my blood vessels in my head??I’m a 22 year old, healthy weight, healthy labs, this isn’t allergies, normal pregnancy aside my headaches, and so no one seems to want to figure this out. I’m not hysterical. I don’t have high blood pressure.. My bp has been steady at 110/65-70. Would I be a bad future mom if I decided to take pain killers until I get this under control? What do I do.. ?
A: I was having terrible mind splitting headaches that would last for days on end @ the begining of my pregnancy as well. I will say that mine did go away after a few weeks However, you were having this problem before you got pregnant, and it seems like the pregnancy is just intensifying itI totally agree with you, you should not have to live that way There is no way you can enjoy your pregnancy when you are constantly suffering. It does not make you a wimp to take stronger medication for it I think it is a very smart choice to opt to enjoy the pregnancy with medication then to dislike every moment of it due to the stress of headachesNot only would I push for pain relief, but I would also ask them to check the status of my spinal fluid etc Whatever it takes In this day & age with such medical advances there is no reason you should be written offI have always said the best kind of mom is a relaxed sane happy one If you have to take something to make that happen, then so be it It does not make you any worse than anyone else Feel better 🙂
Heart palpitations… throbbing body.. headaches..?
Q: Ok.. This is gonna be kinda long.. i will try to describe it as best I can.. First I want to say.. the reason I am looking for answers on here.. is because I have tried and tried to get my doctors to listen to me.. my family doctors.. the ER.. my OBGYN.. and everyone acts like its no big deal.. well the problem is getting worse as time goes on and I feel I deserve to know what’s going on with my body.. So I’m hoping that someone out there who reads this.. has been through this.. or knows someone who has.. and can just give me a little something to go on.. so that I don’t just feel like I’m crazy..This problem has actually been bothering me for as long as I can remember.. at lease as far back as middle school/jr. high.. but back then it was very rare.. once every few months.. or so.. Well over the years it slowly got worse.. (the condition I am referring to is heart palpitations..) And this year it has become almost intolerable.. Starting in March is where it really all began.. I was sitting on the bed.. playing guitar hero.. when all the sudden I just didn’t feel right.. I felt light headed.. and very tired.. dizzy.. I began to pass out and fall off the bed and my fiance caught me.. While in his arms.. I began to not be able to breath that well and my heart was racing so fast I thought for sure I was going to die.. i didn’t know a heart could beat that fast and not kill you.. (and please believe me.. I am not exaggerating.. that’s how it really felt). I was too afraid to go to the hospital that night.. although I admit I really should have.. but I paced around the house.. and moving seemed to keep my mind off my racing heart.. but then I got dehydrated.. I mean the most dehydrated I have ever been.. My entire mouth had not one single bit of saliva in it.. and it got to the point where I was chewing on my tongue.. I made my fiance drive me around in the car with the window down for some fresh air.. and while in the car.. I seen there was an old soda.. prolly had been in there for a few days or longer.. but my mouth was so dry I didn’t care.. i started chugging it.. just to get some moisture in my mouth.. I kept also feeling like I was going to throw up.. but never did.. and I had pressure and pain in my chest area.. I finally got the symptoms to calm down just enough where I could lay down when we got home.. but was unable to get any real sleep. So the next day started out great.. I felt so much better.. so me and my fiance and my daughter decided later in the day to go out and eat.. well right after we went out to eat.. My heart started racing again.. and I began to not be able to breath.. the pain and pressure in my chest was back.. so I finally said enough is enough.. take me to the ER.. They did an EKG on me immediatly and said it looked normal but they left me hooked up on it to keep an eye on things.. while I was hooked up to it my heart started racing again.. I felt like I was going to pass out and couldnt breath.. I hit the call nurse button about 10 times.. they all rushed in.. and I was just barely able to tell them how I was feeling.. My heart rate was up to 160.. they told me to bare down as if having a bowel movement and they had to give me 3 doses of metoprolol (a beta blocker) to slow my heart rate back down.. They wrote me a prescription for the beta blocker and also some anxiety medication and wrote it off as panic/anxiety attacks.. told me to follow up with my family doctor.. and also gave me an order for a 24 hour holter monitor.. I came back to the hospital a few days later to get the halter.. but I was now on metoprolol which was controlling my heart rate.. so I don’t think that the halter monitor picked up anything at all.. Anyways.. I stayed on the med. for a few weeks but then found out I was pregnant and my obgyn took me off of the medication.. At first I seemed ok.. and now.. I am almost 11 weeks pregnant and things are just getting unbearable. My heart will race all day long every few seconds or every few minutes.. and now when it races.. it makes my whole body throbb.. from head to toe.. and they don’t feel the greatest either.. I have to sit up real quick to catch my breath and then they stop.. and the throbbing from my heart racing is now causing me to have all day headaches.. (I also forgot to mention.. there was a time in between finding out I was pregnant and the first ER visit where I had to go to the ER once again.. they did another EKG and it was normal but some of my blood work had came back kinda high.. they decided to do a cat scan and seen something in my lung.. the dr. thought I had a pulmonary embolism/blood clot and admitted me to the hospital and started me on heparin.. a couple hours later they did a lung scan and there was no clot.. so the doctor said there never was a clot and I was fine.. and discharged me. The doctor said that could account for my shortness of breath and chest pains.. also heart palps.. Now what I figured.. is what if the clot wasnSorry it cut me off.. Here is where it left off.. is what if the clot wasn’t that big.. and the haparin got rid of it before the second scan.. I don’t know if it works that quickly or not.. )Anyways.. I apologize for making this so long but I really want some answers and the idiotic doctors around here aren’t doing anything to help me.. So please.. Anyone.. If you can help or refer me somewhere where I can find more information.. anything.. I would really appreciate it. Thank you!and EKG is the exact same test as and ECG. The ECG abbreviation stands for the English word for the test which is electrocardiogram. EKG stands for the German work elekrokardiogram. But they are one in the same.

How to find a doctor who will prescribe oxycontin?
Q: I live in Connecticut, and I have had migraine headaches for the past 8 years. Usually they would get so bad I would end up in the ER on a duiladid IV drip. I have been to a neurologist and he has tried me on every kind of Triptans , NSAIDs, Beta-Blockers, Anticonvulsants, Calcium Channel Blockers, Tricyclic antidepressants, Vicodin, Percocet, Tylox, Benzodiazepines, etc. One day my friend, who also suffers from migraines gave me an oxycontin. It was the first and only medication that provided relief, it was like a miracle drug. I understand it has high abuse potential, etc etc of that I am already aware. My neurologist refuses to prescribe the medication Oxycontin. I have tried going to pain clinics and since the drug is so restricted I am unable to have it prescribed to me. No one understands how these debilitating migraines have ruined my quality of life. I miss work, cannot play with my kids, or take care of my home. I deserve a better quality of life and if this medication is what it takes I will do anything to stop the pain and live a normal life. Where can I find a doctor who will prescribe them to me or a LEGITIMATE online pharmacy where I can order them. I am no drug addict I am simply someone who deals with chronic pain and I just can’t deal with it any longer. I am not looking for anyones OPINIONS or ALTERNATIVES just the answer to my question. Thank you for your help, I am in desperate need of relief.
A: I don’t know how you’re going to go finding a doctor who’ll prescribe oxy for migraines. I’ve been on oxycontin for over 3 years now and not once has it ever helped with a headache , in fact sometimes it seems to make them worse. If you google around , you’ll find heaps of people with similar stories. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but I think you’ll have a hard time finding a doctor who believes oxy can help with migraines. If it does work for you , all I can do is wish you the best of luck getting hold of some.If the migraines are frequent , perhaps it would be worth moving to a state where the prescribing laws are more relaxed. I tried many doctors before I found one who would prescribe me pain relief that actually worked..
