Is it possible to have a miscarriage while on your period?
Q: Sorry I’m not trying to gross anyone out, but I need some SERIOUS advice! I was recently on my period and it usually last for five days, with the first three days being the worst and then usually experiencing no cramps and light spotting on the last two days, but for some reason this last time on the last day I began feeling lower abdominal pain and began bleeding a heavier flow, just like I was starting my period again. I did past what seem to be blood clots, but that is not all that unusal during my period. It’s just unusual for it to occur when my period was suppose to end. The pain stopped within 6-7 hours, but I had a extra two day of bleeding. I also had flu-like body aches, mostly in my legs, during the extra two days. I’m just really lost and I don’t want to waste a trip to the doc, if this really isn’t anything, but this just happened a couple days ago, so if this sound a little more serious than what I take it to be, please let me know if you think I should get checked out!
A: One in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage and most often people do not know it because it coincided with their period. It is very possible that you had a miscarriage.
How long before a miscarriage actually occurs?
Q: This weekend was been the longest weekend since Thursday evening i started with a annoying lower back pain which i thought it was just tired of sitting all day at work and i was hoping to go home and rest but as the evening progressed the pain got worse and uncontrolable. Later on that evening i went to the bathroom and noticed a light spotting which caught me for surprise…i decided to call my nurse told her what i felt and she said that if i had cramping as in pd cramping and spotting those were signs of a miscarriage, she said to take a tylenol for the back pain and that if i got worse to go to the hospital….while i took tylenol and the pain disappeared and the spotting stopped i was relieved…but as friday morning came i went to the bathroom and i notice spotting again but this time with blood strings tissue like that freaked me out a bit…i decide to call the doc office again and they scheduled an ultra sound i went to the hospital where the ultrasound took place and they dont tell you anything the doctor is supose to call you with the results….i did notice she went several time over my right ovary and it would hurt and than she ask if i had both ovaries which i found odd and scared me even more. She told me that i doctor would call me monday with the results..But as i drove home with my boyfriend i recieved the call from the doctor. He said i have bad new the embryo stopped growing and i was going to go through a miscarriage. The baby didnt have a heartbeat and his /her measurements were the size of a 7 week old….since friday i have had no spotting nor cramping i havent released anything. any advice or past experience…please help
A: I’m terribly sorry for your loss. I have had 2 previous miscarriages, one at 6 weeks and one at 10 weeks. For me, both of them started very similarly to yours. I had spotting for around a week before, which was minimal, and by the end of the 7 days, I had a full miscarriage. Both of mine were natural miscarriages, meaning that I didnt have a D&C either time. I allowed my body to do what it needed to do, and followed up with an ultrasound about a week afterwards. This was to check to make sure the miscarriages were complete, and there wasnt anything left behind. Seeing as how you know that your body has already started miscarrying, you have a few options. You can either let it proceed on its own, or talk to your doc about scheduling a D&C procedure. The choice would be yours entirely, unless the doctor thought it would be beneficial/mandatory to have a D&C, due to underlying health concerns. The reason the tech might have been looking at your ovaries, is that they might have been checking for cysts. I thought I had a cyst burst at around 22 weeks pregnant. They sent me for ultrasound and checked, and came to the conclusion that it was just spotting and not to worry. All I can suggest is to listen to your body. Should you feel that it will happen when it needs to, I would play the waiting game for atleast a few more days. Should you feel that you dont want to wait it out, I would talk to your doctor very soon about a D&C. Either way you decide to go, you shouldnt wait too long. Waiting too long could start causing infection and other problems. I hope this helps give you some insight and wish you good luck
Am I pregnant or is my body still recovering from a miscarriage?
Q: I had a late miscarriage 7 months ago, and after a couple of months my periods returned to normal. For the last few weeks I’ve been feeling nauseous, tired and needing to wee more often so I did a pregnancy test yesterday which turned out positive. It’s obvious you’re pregnant d’oh, I hear you say but I was checking my boobs and a little drop of milk came out. Now what I need to know is what stage of pregnancy does that usually occur? Have I been pregnant for a while and had periods? Does my body still have some faint traces of pregnancy hormones? Or have I just fallen pregnant within the last few weeks? My period is/would be due next week so I’m quite confused if it’s a recent pregnancy!I have a doc appointment on Tuesday but I would love advice/stories from others who have been in similar situation.Serious answers only please!
A: Hi, I am sorry for your loss, there is nothing worse than a miscarriage, its a terrible experience, no matter what stage. I miscarried on the 5th early hrs of the 6th November, I found out in late Dec that I was pregnant and am now 25 weeks and 2 days. Due on the 30th August. I think it def is a pregnancy but only your doc can answer this. I would hate to give false hope as everyone has different bodies ect. You didnt mention how far along you were when you miscarried, can I ask without being intrusive? I hope that you are pregnant if this si what you want and I wish you all the best for the future!x
