Having children after a DNC surgery?
Q: I’m going to the doctor on April 13th for a pre-pregnancy meeting/exam. My husband and I are trying to conceive. Our first pregnancy was a miscarriage. I had a DNC surgery and now I’m wondering if my body has fully healed or if anything happened during the surgery that has caused me not to have any children. I want to get checked for this to make sure everything went well. The surgery was in September 2008. What types if tests will they do in order to see if my body has healed properly and to make sure that nothing happened during surgery that would cause me not to have any more children?
A: Sorry for your loss. However d&c’s are pretty safe and the risks are very low, they usually do not cause any damage to your uterus or ability to have children so i would not worry. I would think your body has healed but that is definitely something to discuss with your doctor. To ease all your worries bring up all and any questions you have, your doctor is best suited to answer them. I am sure he will perform a pap smear and possibly do an ultrasound to confirm healing.Good luck and best wishes
Irregular periods a couple months after a miscarriage. ?
Q: I had an awful experience back in September. My husband and I tried in June to have a child and we got lucky on the first try. I was just out of my first trimester and had a miscarriage. I was seeing a highly recommended doctor and was told that the baby had died about 2 weeks for before I found out. He then placed an appointment for my DNC surgery 6 days later. Which the night prior I went into pre- labor and was rushed early and aborted the child mostly without surgery. (I left that doctor IMMEDIATELY) After the surgery my periods were normal the first couple months now they are lasting a full week and a week of spotting. Very light pink blood. I am not sure what this means? I have been an emotional wreck and there for my husband and I have not had sex. I am in no pain so I am kind of ruling out cysts. It was mentioned premenopausal but I am only 28! Is that really possible? And stress well with everything I have been through in the past year I have been under more stress then this. Has this happened to anyone???? I have seen 2 different doctors now and they just keep telling me to watch it. I’m nervous.
A: my wife and i lost a child 10 years ago and she had the same problem. hormones can cause this. try a new doctor. ask for tests to be done and tell them it is your body not theirs. do not let them play this off. i am sorry for your loss, and i can tell you 4 kids later that it does not mean you cannot carry a child to term.good luck and god bless
Was given Cytotec to induce a miscarriage over 48 hours ago and it’s not working? Going in for a second dose.?
Q: At 8 weeks I found out my baby had no heartbeat. I waited two weeks to see if I would miscarry on my own, but it never happened. I went to my doctor on tues. 3/2/10 to have the cytotec treatment done to induce the miscarriage. It was given to me as suppositories and it was suppose to take 24-48 hours to work. 2 hours after the treatment I started spotting and getting some pain, but by tues. evening everything stopped and never progressed again. I am scheduled to go in tomorrow morning on friday 3/5/10 to get a 2nd treament of the cytotec. I am trying to avoid having surgery (DNC), but if the cytotec continues not to work I will have to. Has anyone had this happen and what did you do?
A: i would like to say that i am so sorry for your loss, this is a hard situation emotionally which makes these decisions even harderas scary as it is, i think you should do the DNC, the longer this takes to resolve the higher your risk of infection. if the drug didn’t work the first time what are the chances it will work the second time? and DNC is a common procedure so your doctor should be experianced in itplus this is an off label use for cytotec, and it has caused uterine ruptures when used to induce labor at full term. read the 2 articles i linked below
